Humming

my DW is humming songs all the time that she is awake. She also fidgets with her fingers a lot. I ask her what she is humming and she says she’s not humming. Any thoughts?

My DW has been humming ( no discernible tune) about 3 years now. It was one of the first changes I noticed when I thought she might be having a problem. She knows she is doing it, if asked she'll say "just humming".

My grandmother would fidget a lot. She would walk around twisting, twisting, twisting a hankie. Fidgeting is a known symptom of alz. 'Twiddle muffs', toys and blankets are available to keep hands occupied. Sometimes they work.

My dh was a master of jingles. About two years of our life was accompanied by commercial jingles of the 60s and 70s interspersed with a few TV theme songs.

My mom has been humming the same two notes over and over for years. From the minutes she wakes up until she falls asleep. At first I thought it was a way to comfort herself. But then I remembered this old documentary I watched that simulated having Alzheimer's many years ago. It seems a lot of people with AD have static in their head and I think the humming is to cover that up.
