Yesterday my husband spelled his first name incorrectly on a coloring page, but an hour later while outdoors on a walk, he heard a motorcycle roaring and exclaimed, “Did you hear that motorcycle in this cold weather”! A compound thought! He has a South African aide with an accent who says his name over and over when she sees him. He spelled his name phonetically just as she pronounced it. Perhaps he’s regressed to that of a young child learning to write phonetically.

I have a picture on my refrigerator that my husband colored in MC and printed his name on the bottom. It is also spelled phonetically. When I look at it, it reminds me of something one of our children might have done when they were in grade school.

One of the low points in my DW's decline was when she began to forget her own name despite me using many times a day. When filling out Christmas cards a few years ago I wanted to sign my name and have her at least sign her own first name, just as we had always done. On the first card she looked at me plaintively and said "what's my name again?" Heartbroken I told her, and she then proceeded, in all lowercase printing, to spell her name phonetically. She didn't notice that it wasn't close to the way her name is actually spelled.
