Neurologists recommendation

I'm not in Florida, I'm in Minnesota and I'm aware that Mayo Clinic has a facility in Jacksonville — that facility would have access to all the Mayo system work and research — I'd advise you start there.

My experience was that the neurologists have no tools to help other than drugs to partially control behavior. From diagnosis to death for my DW was 7 years. Every 6 months another appointment to basically just document losses. For the last 2 years he had a NP who was available 7 days a week via email for changes in meds. It's was a sad state of affairs but it was as much as he/they could do. Sorry I wish I had a more comforting answer! Rick

There is a memory clinic affiliated with USF. I don’t have a specific doctor there because my husband was treated at the VA. Any doctor at USF should be good. https://health.usf.edu/care/byrd

I lived in Tampa for 72 years. I know the area very well. I hate to report our experience with neurologists there. First, a highly recommended neurologist made an incorrect diagnosis of DH. He was patronizing with my DH and cold as well. Second neurologist asked us to leave at our first visit because “we asked too many questions”. He was egotistical and unbelievably rough in his questioning of my husband. He confused him and made him anxious. The Byrd Institute at USF was unresponsive, seems badly organized and I have no recommendation for it either. We finally ended up at Massachusetts General Memory Clinic in Boston and got thorough, kind and compassionate care up through diagnosis. But I agree with other posters, after diagnosis all we have gotten is monitoring of functioning. Our experience is that if the diagnosis is Alzheimers, treatment is pretty much non existent other than Memantine and Aricept, which who knows if they help?
I wish you the best but good neurologists are few and far between, IMHO. If you can travel to a nationally ranked Memory Clinic, I strongly recommend doing so.
