67 year old wife trance-like state

For hours at a time on most days it is easy to believe that she has nothing more than minor memory issues. But as if she has a split personality, she will become very distant and seems depressed and goes into a trance-like state. This can last 2 to 3 hours and then she comes out of the trance. This issue began around mid-August this year and continues. She has completed the PET Scan and MRI was diagnosed two days ago with moderate Alzheimer's. Any similar issues from others?

Personality changes are really common with AD. I don't know about trances.

My wife gets down sometimes, and says no one but me cares about her, that she is losing her mind, and that she is going to die. There is a lot of truth in what she says, so I think it is less depression than sadness about the reality of her situation.

my husband would go into trance like states where he wouldn’t respond. Almost like sleep walking. It may be seizures. Talk to her doctor.

I agree with @SDianeL, it could be a seizure and an EEG may identify what is going on.

She is fully functioning and talking when she is in the trance like state, She usually starts humming an hour or so beforehand and then the "away" wife talks about her husband (though I'm in front of her). When I ask her who I am, she sees me as a friend during this time but is completely alert. Her speech is a little slower and lower (I think that's so no one can hear her talking).
