How he parts his hair -

So much of Alzheimer’s is heartbreakingly sad, especially when our loved ones stop generating conversations, but occasionally something is said that causes heartfelt mirth.

I shower, dress, and most every night tuck my husband in even though he’s in memory care facility. While combing his hair after a shower, I asked him which direction does he part his hair and he replied, “To the east”. Our eyes met in the mirror and we burst into spontaneous laughing! 😂

So great, makes me laugh! Thanks for sharing that!!! Just curious, does your husband have anosognosia? My wife and I have similar moments where she’ll say something that is confused, or not what she means, or in some way whacky that turns out to be very funny- and we’ll laugh together. She does have anosognosia. and so in these moments I wonder if she has a moment of understanding her situation.
    Again, thanks for the chuckle!

Yes, he has anosognosia, too. He’s never shown insight into having Alzheimer’s even though before he was diagnosed he knew three siblings and his dad had died of it.

I find this really interesting. My DH is in Stage 7 now but when he was still able to say a few words, he would never say left or right, ahead or behind. He would say east, west, north or south. He was always good with directions and very analytical, also an Engineer. This always fascinated me and I would love to know why they do this.

Thank you for the laugh, it’s great when you can see the lighter side of this debilitating disease and something triggers a good laugh.

My grandmother lived in a mobile home all my life and later in life she had it moved to another state. It was oriented differently, and her sense of direction was so strong that she would bump into things in the same home she'd lived in for decades because the orientation had changed.
