Approaching stage 8
My DH, who has been on hospice in a nursing home for a month, had a big downturn last night. He can no longer swallow and is aspirating on his saliva. Hospice has discontinued all food and drink, and now it is a waiting game. He’s getting morphine and Ativan every four hours and seems to be comfortable.
It’s hard to believe we’re here. It’s been almost seven years since he started his Alzheimer’s journey.

So sorry. The hospice nurse told me to talk to my husband constantly during this time so I did. She said he can hear you. Tell him how much you love him and that you will be OK. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Hugs.

Your thoughts, prayers and hugs mean so much to me. All of you have been a lifeline throughout my DH’s disease. He is still with us, and I’m heading over with my daughter to spend time with him.❤️

I am sorry. This is a difficult time that I remember well. The Ativan, the morphine, the seemingly labored breathing. If it’s any consolation, my DH’s eventual passing was peaceful; his final breath was like a deep contented sigh after 13 years. He is at peace; I am at peace. God be with you.

Be with him. Hold his hand, rub his arm and talk to him softly. Go down memory lane for the both of you. Your scared and he is also. May your time together be sweet and gentle.
