hey quick question - do you holiday tip staff at your AL/MC facility? If so, who (and how much it you’re comfortable sharing)…

At DH's facility, gifts to specific employees are prohibited. Gifts that all can partake of, such as cookie trays, veggie & fruit trays, pizza, etc. are allowed. Tips are strictly prohibited and can result in the employee being fired if they accept them. Check with the facility to find out their specific policies.

Many facilities have a Christmas bonus fund that you can contribute to, the fund will get divided up equally between staff members. Just check to make sure you agree with what staff members are included (direct care, administrative, etc.) I agree that most facilities have a policy of no individual gifts.

Same. At my mom's MC, families may contribute to a holiday fund if they would like to give appreciation to the staff. Direct care staff are the recipients of the fund. They are not permitted to accept individual gifts. There is no rule against providing group gifts like a tray of cookies.

I gave chocolates to the staff where my mom was. I did gift a couple of especially helpful staff some money after my mom died there.

Hi kblau—I'm getting Mom's MC manager said food was always appreciated, or you could donate to a fund for the entire facility's staff celebration. Mom's first facility let you donate some gift cards to the caregiver's givng tree that they opened during their staff party.

My DH's MC allows gifts, so I will be giving Target gift cards for $20-$25.
