Lewy Body

Hi ..my guy has Alzheimer's along with Lewy Body disease and he's struggling with the "people" who are in his head but he thinks are here. He thinks they're putting cigarettes in his drinks and stealing his things. Plus he thinks I'm on heroin and sleeping around with all these imaginary people, who some actually are based on real people. Anyone dealing with anything close to this? I'm having a real hard time handling

many Alzheimer’s patients have delusions and hallucinations. I would write them down along with describing his anxiety and aggression levels and give them to his doctor. Medication may help. As you know arguing doesn’t work. It’s his reality. Learn all you can about Alzheimer’s. The book “The 36 Hour Day” may help along with Tam Cummings videos. Some tips: don’t argue, get in his reality, fib if you must. Some have said apologize and redirect or distract with treat, walk, ride, or a simple task that may take their mind off of the delusion. We understand how you feel. It’s not your LO it’s the disease.

So sorry you are on this journey with us 24/7 caregivers. Of course, you are having a hard time! Who wouldn’t be?

My advice is to react to one behavior at a time, ask for help and TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Seek out respite time and make it a priority for yourself. I believe we cannot do this without getting away from it as often as is practical to seek peace, quiet and for recharging our emotional batteries.
