Dad removes depends during night

Hi,
I am new to this. My father is dealing with dementia. He's 80 years old. My mom is 82. I live here with them. What's brought me here is that I'm looking for any suggestions.
My dad, during the night is removing his Depends briefs. This is something new as of this week. They will be on the floor or nightstand. My mom is getting more frustrated. Any suggestions at all on how to get him to keep them on???

My DH did this a few times. I placed disposable pads under him and under the sheet as well as a high quality leakproof mattress pad. This all helped catch accident from getting to the mattress but still didn't protect the sheets and blankets.

One day, I saw him rubbing at the elastic around his legs and realized it was a very tight fit and the fabric was really uncomfortable against the skin. I ordered some washable cloth briefs that have a liner and added another, disposable liner to that. We haven't fully tested this yet but it caught a minor accident. Fingers crossed.

Thank you. We have a waterproof mattress pad. I will let my mom know about putting some pads under the sheets and on top too. Grateful for any suggestions. That's a good idea about if the briefs could be too tight. Thank you very much!
