Professional Guardian

Has anyone had any experience using a professional guardian in Colorado? I am working on getting a petition for guardianship filed but do not want to be the guardian myself. While I reside in the same state, my relationship with my father has been very bad for many years and I am frequently out of the country. There is no other family to do it and I think he will work better with an impartial third party in regard to making care decisions going forward.

I've not heard of a 'professional guardian' except for the state to take over. He would become a ward of the state if he cannot take care of himself and has nobody to step up.

I'm sure you'd have to know somebody realllllly well in order for them to take on such a responsibility and to do so responsibly.

I have a friend who works for an attorney who acts as guardian for clients in similar circumstances.

I would prefer this option over a state-appointed professional guardian. Another option is to accept guardianship and hire a professional Eldercare Manager to be your eyes and ears.

Good info - Thank you both. I did not realize this. Much better than being a ward of state!
