Dementia

Dementia... a word I have come to loathe. It has been horrible to watch my talented, brilliant husband experience the horrors of this horrendous disease. Being aware of what Alzheimer's or likely Lewy Bodies stole on a daily basis was so difficult and sad to observe. Medically the support we received was to treat the depression (yes, he was depressed), sleep management and more mood elevators. Research for treating this monster of a disease must be a primary focus and cannot come soon enough. This disease effects everyone in the family and the community. My DH is now at peace.

Jean 84 - you are so correct in loathing dementia. I am so sorry for your loss, but your DH is now at peace. We are deep into this dreaded disease and I feel this may be the year of events for my DH. He has digressed significantly in the last few months. The sadness of this disease is when you realize they are never going to be better - no cure. And you are also correct to say research must be primary focus...

May you find strength and peace through this most difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my DH two weeks ago to CHF, but a stroke and ALZ had already robbed him of his strong body and intelligent mind. Dementia is indeed a cruel disease.

Oh sweet Jean84… What a wonderful, faithful spouse you have been. I am SO sorry for your loss. I just joined this group today, to get advice and just to have support in caring for my 80 y/o Mom who has Alz.
My Dad is 82 and he cares for my Mom 24/7. We help each day, but he does the majority of it all and prefers that it be that way. I believe I may have read a previous post of yours earlier today, discussing some of the difficulties of being the caregiver and seeing how this horrible disease takes the ones we love and changes everything.
My heart really went out to you because in certain ways, I feel your pain. It also helped me understand a bit more of my how my Dad may feel.
Now though, I see that your DH is at peace and I just want to say first of all, how terribly sorry I am for your heartache.
I can't imagine the range of emotions you must be feeling.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I also just want to say something that I believe is worth saying..and that is, THANK YOU.
Thank you for taking such good care of your husband.
Thank you for your patience, your compassion, your love and your dedication.
Thank you for the many sleepless nights, the tears, the laughs, the support and the compassionate understanding,
Thank you for the SELFLESSS, faithful care you so willingly gave.
May God richly bless you and give you strength, love and peace during this difficult time.
I have no doubt your husband must have been a truly wonderful man, with a WONDERFUL spouse.
    God bless you.
    ((((HUGS)))))))
