Relocation

I am caring for my uncle, and we have reached a point where we feel like his
living alone is not in his best interest. I have secured new housing arrangements, but we're struggling with how to break the news that we will be moving him from his home of 60 plus years. He sits alone with no interaction with anyone and little to no involvement with TV or other media outlets. I am hoping that being in a more communal setting will help to engage him in life. Am I being naive?

We blamed it on the doctor, which was kind of true. I think many go this route. Somehow mom still blamed me. She is mad at me about the move, but overall she participates in activities, has made friends and gets dressed every morning ( she had been staying in her pjs all day). It has been good for her even if she is mad at me about it.

Many families tell the pwd shortly before the move, and many do not tell them. I talked to my dh for a couple of weeks about moving generally but did not tell him that he was moving. I took him there to see the facility doc for a checkup and then set up the room while he was taken to an activity. I stayed away for a couple of weeks and he had settled in. From there I was able to take him out to lunch every week for two years, and he was content to return to his new home.

Now he asks to go home, he says "I wish" he were married. It's just sad.
