DH has knee arthritis, pain in the knee and back from his back, and now apparently arthritis in both his feet. The foot pain seems to be even worse than the other and sometimes so bad he can barely walk. The ortho doc prescribed a compounded cream for the knee, and several months later the podiatrist has prescribed a different one for his feet. Currently the toes are hot and red and miserable. Podiatrist knows he has a second cream to use.

Is it better to use one cream over the other in terms of pain relief?

Must I use it 4 times a day ongoing, or will it work with an individual application? (Is it like Voltaren where you have to build up over a week)

He also takes one 300mg gabapentin at night.

Ketamine. Baclofen. Cyclobenzaprine. Gabapentin. Lidocaine 10% 2% 2% 6% 5%

Baclofen. Cyclobenzaprine. Gabapentin. Ibuprofen. Lidocaine 2% 2% 6% 3% 5%

Thanks !

    These sound like questions for your pharmacist to answer.

    @M5M

    I have a quilter-friend with terrible arthritis in her hands. Her hand surgeon enrolled her in a double blind study where patients trialed Volatran (new indication) for a period and then a specific hemp oil. For her the hemp oil was superior. I'd ask about something like this.

    HB

    Good thought…we've already eliminated Voltaren for him. Thanks

    I’m unable to offer any advice because I just don’t have experience with these compounded creams. Maybe the pharmacist can, or you may need to ask the 2 doctors to communicate about the meds (a huge challenge, I know). Sending you comfort.

    My wife takes turmeric capsules for gastric reflux, and it helped more than the prescription meds. As an extra benefit, her arthritic knee is much better and she no longer uses a cane to take weight off the knee. I have since learned that an orthopedist advised my SIL to take turmeric for her arthritis.

    I buy them over the counter in the drug store, next to the vitamins. Turmeric is the spice used in curry and other South Asian cooking, but she won't eat spicy food so I just give her the capsules.

    I gave my DH CBD gummies. His doctor said ok. They calmed him and also helped the pain. He had very bad knees.
