Understanding the number system ?

Hi, I see numbers discussed like 5-6. Are theses years or stages of disease? Thanks , Sandi

Stages. Other members can elaborate more on them.

Hi Sandi —
Yes, these are the stages of the disease. My sister had Alzheimer's and FTD, and these are the charts that I found most helpful:
Clinical Stages of Alzheimer's (pretty detailed)
Dementia Care Central (several charts all on one page)
There are many more out there, so you may find something else that you prefer, but these two sites will give you a start.

These are functional stages, not stages of the disease. Medical doctors generally use a mild, moderate, severe staging for the disease, while caregivers use the seven-part scale that discusses progression from a care standpoint. Some lists also include how many years is typical for each stage.

Thanks this will help.

thank you so much. My LO is stage 4 so we still have it pretty good. I’m hoping it’s slow moving as he is 86 and a great guy. One day at a time, I do not feel comfortable leaving him alone for more than a few hours.
