I did what I said I wouldn’t

After 60 years of marriage and in year 15 of caregiving I always have said I would never wipe my DH’s royal hiney. That never day came with you know what on the bathroom floors, toilet seat, etc. and on his royal hiney. After cleaning it up -including the royal hiney-I believe I deserve a super duper big gold star on my CAREGIVERS DIPLOMA when I graduate!!!!!

You definitely deserve that gold star! Welcome to the blue-glove club! It gets easier, and even though I think we all thought we would never do that, it just becomes part of loving caregiving. In so many ways our loved ones become like our babies again - big, annoying, frustrating, but still loved babies!

Glad you are joking about it! I stay awake nights dreading that day. You give me hope that it’s not as bad as we anticipate. 🤞

it’s all part of caregiving. And yes, you deserve that gold star!

Way to go.
I really dreaded the day and when it happened, I was fine with it.

You done good! After a couple years, it’s no big deal. It’s what you do when you love someone who can’t manage on their own.

Oh No, not the royal hiney… I honestly think my DH will clunk me on the head if I touched his hiney… we’ll see, that day is very near😩 I’m already cleaning up after him. He thinks he does a good job, plus he thinks he’s doing it on the sly. I’m so sorry💕💙 Most Definitely Gold Star Worthy and then some. You may even graduate with honors💜

I did it for my mother but thankfully it only lasted a couple weeks. The hospice workers would put on the blue gloves when it came time to handle my mother. They were angels. I said I will never put on a glove to touch my mother and I never did. We will see if that principle can hold when it comes time for my DW.

Gold Stars to you!!
It was never pleasant but I never minded it that much. It wasn't her fault and she would be very upset and emotional by it. They still have a deep down sense of dignity and when someone else has to clean and wipe their hiney it's still hard for them as it would be for me. Welcome to the next level of caregiving! :)1 -
I dreaded the day when I would have to do that for my HWD. But the first time was relatively easy so I proved to myself I could do “it”. Here’s a hack I read somewhere—if the poo has been there a while and is difficult to clean off— shaving cream (not gel) is the magic eraser.
I ended getting a bidet and it has been a lifesaver—If you can, get one that provides warm water.

I love the idea of a bidet, but I’m not familiar with them at all. Are you able to please share what type/brand you have?

I've used a Brondell Swash (wore that one out) and a Kohler Purewash (what I have now). To me, the most important features are heated seat (once you try you never go back) and heated water. I also needed the round (not elongated) size. I read reviews and prices. Toto has the best reviews and the highest prices, and they only have models to fit elongated toilet seats.
I did not buy this for my loved one with dementia, although he did use it until he moved to memory care.

I used to be a nurse in ICU. I figure that if I could do it with compassion for strangers, I can do it for my DH when the time comes.
