I’d like to get a caretaker come over twice a week for a few hours. Where do I begin to search? And hubby likes sleeping until 10:30 or so. Therefore I should have the person over when he’s up and about? Thx

I used Care.com and got good results. I have someone come in two days a week for a three hour shift. It has been great to allow me to get away a little bit.

I’ve used Care.com as well, the cons with them is that you will be responsible for interviewing, background checks, tax reporting (unless you want to pay cash which could potentially come back to bite you from a legal perspective), liability (what if the caregiver injures themselves on your property?) and being stuck if the aide fails to show. Their big PRO is that you can usually find hourly help that is much less expensive than using an agency (to find one, you can just google ‘senior help near me’, or your doctor’s office may have a list). I was able to find someone suitable, but the tax bit freaked me out so I discontinued her after a few months. My DH is usually in bed until 10;30 ish as well so that’s when I had her arrive. She would fix his breakfast and help him get ready as needed. I was then able to slip out the door if I had errands. I have the same setup now, just with a licensed, bonded agency. Good luck with your search; you will find that respite time will help you!

I contacted the Area Agency on Aging (the agency might go by a different name in different areas). They gave me 32 hours of respite care a month plus an aide who came to help him with his shower. There was no cost to us for this service. You might also talk to Home Instead. They are a reputable agency.

i looked at care today and it looked like anyone I wanted to reply too I had to pay by upgrading the account. I’d prefer getting agency that does all the checking etc. I have list through insurance I’ll work on tomorrow. Thx for your input.

I was interested in home stead until I read some negative reviews. They did have positive reviews too but didn’t like the negative ones.

I have been using TheKey with good results. They are more expensive than others but I think that prevents a lot of staff turnover.
