My DH is late stage 6, early 7 and under Hospice care. His vocabulary is mostly word salad but the last week or so his voice is different, sounds like when he has a bad cold, little deeper and a little raspy. Anyone else experienced difference in their voice??

Acid reflux and silent aspiration can cause those symptoms. He may also develop aspiration pneumonia which can be a terminal event.

Thanks for the response. The last couple of weeks things certainly are changing. Just hard and sad.

The word salad was bad enough, but my wife also began using subdued tones and quite whispers. Often, I would see her mouth moving but with little to no sound coming out.

Arrowhead, I know it’s so sad watching our love ones go through this. I think my DH is just more tired and weaker and hence his voice is different. Time will tell.
