For people who hire help in your home for respite care and such, what is your perspective and experiences with having cameras in the house to record / monitor what happens while you are gone?

It has been recommended that I use cameras but I am concerned that it will interfere with the trust I hope to develop with the people I hire.

I showed my caregiver the cameras and told her I had them to keep an eye on my wife when I was out gardening or doing other things when she (the caregiver) wasn’t there. That was actually the truth. I had them before the caregiver. My caregiver is really experienced with dementia caregiving. All she said was, “Good idea.” and that was that.

I admit I am lucky that I already knew my caregiver socially from this small town we moved to and some trust was already there.

I have cameras in my house now well before having care givers. I think the approach of pointing them out would be understandable for a care giver. I would put them up.

I have them and the caregiver is aware. I don't think it's caused any problems since he knows they're needed for the short periods DH is alone.

In modern life, cameras are EVERYWHERE, so it really shouldn't surprise anyone.

I use Ring cameras for my mom. There are stickers on the doors that say cameras are in use, and the cameras are visible.

The cameras help me to monitor my mom's routines and the caregivers' comings and goings.

Mom agreed to the cameras because she used to think people were stealing her eyeglasses. (She was hiding them from herself.) Sometimes I'll look at the footage with mom. Her comment was "It looks like all I do is pace around the house". 😆
