Advice!!

I am new to the group and need advice. My Mom has late stages Alzheimer’s and has been able to be alone for part of the day while I work. This week every day she has been scared, anxious and leaves the house and then cannot figure out how to get back. I have a caregiver but she only comes from 12 to 1 as that is all I can afford and all Mom has is her SS. I feel like I have failed her and have had to leave work every each day to help her. I live in Texas and have been told Medicaid if she gets approved would help with home care. I feel totally overwhelmed as I know she needs more care but man it is so expensive. I have toyed with finding a work from home, looking for a different caregiver who can stay longer but that might take awhile. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

It is so overwhelming getting help. You might try the county aging association where she lives. They may have resources. Some have daycare for elderly and take dementia patients. She can no longer stay by herself. She is in danger. She needs 24 hour care. Medicaid won’t provide that. You should consider memory care. You haven’t failed her. You just haven’t found help yet. Also call the toll free number at the top of this website. They may know resources. Please keep us posted. We know and understand what you are going through.
