Subacute rehab vent

My DH Is in a subacute rehab after having his toes and part of his foot amputated due to gangrene. He is not supposed to put weight on his foot until the doctor gives the ok. Last Friday night while sundowning, he got out of bed, walked into the next room and fell. He cut his arm and has a big bruise, but nothing else. The rehab place called to let me know that he fell but was ok. I can't believe that no one saw him walking in the hall!

Now my entire days (8AM - 8PM) are spent with my DH at subacute rehab, making sure he doesn't walk. I have now hired a companion for the nighttime hours 8PM - 8AM. It is giving me peace of mind, but I am already spending money on MC to keep DH's room. They don't offer any break if you're not there. He is physically not able to go back to MC yet. He needs more PT or else he will be falling. That will cause more 911 calls and hospital visits.

This illness not only sucks the life out of you, but the money out of your wallet!

What an awful situation. You are right this disease sucks the life and money out of you. What a Herculean effort you are putting in admiration plus from me. I hope you are getting some sleep during the night. Take care.

This situation belies your screen name. I am so sorry. This situation is awful.

We had something similar with my aunt who broke her hip. She was on Medicaid by that point and had broken her hip in AL. Her daughter had to act as sitter in the SNF with an occasional break from her son's widow. It was a nightmare.
