Today I called hospice care and will be waiting to see if my DW is eligible for their care . This was a very hard decision but I feel that if I can't get my wife to eat and all the weight that she has lost it would be best for both of us .

Depending on how far along she is it may be temporary. Something may be causing discomfort that makes her not want to eat. In the end stage, not eating becomes part of the shutdown process that happens before stage 8. Hospice will probably be able to determine the cause, and what you should or should not do about it.

So glad you contacted Hospice. I know it’s a step we don’t really want to make but I have found them to be so helpful and so happy to have them on board. They have helped us since last July and my DH continues to qualify every couple of months. I would think your DW would qualify if she isn’t eating and has lost weight. Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you I'm hoping they can determine what it is that keeps her from eating .

So glad she qualified and they will be great help going forward. Once on board, ask about volunteers also. I use them for a hour or two a week just to run errands etc. They have been the best caregivers I have had.

Our family member got hospice care in a memory care center and it was incredible. My mom said the nurses and caregivers were saints and supported her as much as my stepdad with dementia. She has said it was the best decision she made. He lived for 9 months on hospice and my mom got to enjoy being his wife instead of his caregiver.
