Seroquel - Anything I Should Know?

Finally was able to get my husband to a doctor for a complete physical. Turns out he's as physically heathly as he can be for a 78 year old.

To help with anxiety and sleep issues, Dr has prescribed Seroquel - 12.5mg / per day to start. I can go up if needed.

What has everyone's experience been? Good? Bad? Anything I should be aware beside the dizziness and increase risk for fall?

Thanks

For us, this is a wonderful drug. It makes my DH calmer and my life easier. I think 12.5 mg is a very low dose so if it doesn’t work, don’t be scared to increase. We are on 150 mg XR

    Best of luck!!

With DW I found it was great for toning down the hostility and paranoia, for the past 7 years, but it also toned down the positive emotions like warmth and compassion and empathy. It has been termed an antipsychotic.

My DW has just been prescribed 25 mg twice a day. It’s been a couple of weeks and I don’t see any difference. Probably have to increase dose. We have an appointment on Wednesday. She is also taking 100 mg of Zoloft twice a day.

I found it very useful to control delusions and keep my DW calm. It also helped her sleep consistently. We started low as you have been recommended, and slowly over her last 3-4 years increased as needed. I started with 12.5 after lunch to eliminate the sundowning. Very quickly 1-2 months raised to 25mg. I also started a dose at 7 or 8 PM to help with sleep. Over the course of her last 3-4 years I would occasionally raise or lower her dosage. We never got over 100mg total for a day. Schedule remained at mid afternoon and before bed. I served it in chocolate pudding primarily but occasionally applesauce with cinnamon.

My DW remained home with me through stage 8, lots of hands on care but very little drama. Rick

Rick4407- This gives me hope to keep my DH of 57 years home with me. He is also taking Seroquel 25mg in the am and 25 mg at bedtime. I found this to be the best for him and we have tried others. I do have extra if I need it in the afternoon but only had to use it one time during this past winter. He also goes to day care 3 times a week, that has been great for him and me to have a respite and get things done that I need to do. Thank you for a great message for me, I hope for the best to keep him hope. He is stage 7.

I always followed ButterflyWings and I think she had her husband home with her, has anyone heard how things are with her ????

Seroquel enabled mom to keep dad home with her safely until weeks before he passed.

12.5mg is a very small does. I would expect you may need to either increase to 25mg and possible add 1-2 additional doses. But low and slow is the way to start out.

IME, Seroquel did not dampen dad's affect or impact his warmth or empathy— those were lost very early on. I saw distinct personality changes in him a decade before his diagnosis.
