Medicaid, a joint federal and state program, is administered by individual states, not the federal government directly. While the federal government sets broad guidelines and funding levels, states have considerable flexibility in determining eligibility requirements, covered benefits, and payment rates for providers. This allows for variations in Medicaid programs across different states.

The "Affordable Care Act, expanded Medicaid eligibility to include any adult earning 138 percent of the federal poverty level (FPL) and below. Suddenly, in the 40 states (and DC) who have adopted Medicaid expansion, able-bodied adults of working age were eligible for a program designed to help the neediest among us."

With medical insurance costing hundreds to a thousand plus a month able-bodied folks made the rational decision to not work ,work off the books, etc . And now here we are - trillions in debt and having to manage our way out. Why can't we just let it go? Many reasons- national debt ,inflation, trying to keep the world on the dollar.

Thanks for the comments. Sticks and stones do not bother me. I do believe we have to advocate. I also contacted my congressman about the cuts to Alzheimer

    Source please. What facts?

    https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/5188643-medicaid-reform-disabilities/

Do you really want to cut medicaid for people with health issues for those without ?

Do you really want to keep losing Doctors ? Want to keep local hospitals open? Then stop moving able bodied to Medicaid which pays too little to keep them open. Feelings aren't bankable.

Keep pushing "change nothing" and that's just what you'll get .

And if you have a medicare advantage or supplement from United you may want to watch that news so you'll be up to date on whatever is going on there.

From Congress: “Here’s the truth about Medicaid:

🔴1.4 million illegals currently receive it.

🔴1 million claim it in multiple states

🔴1 million receive Medicaid AND Obamacare.

Eliminating fraud isn’t controversial. It’s our job.”

FYI: The plane is a gift to the US not President Trump. Many other presidents accepted gifts. The lane will be given to the DOD and Air Force and will go in the presidential library. Boeing won’t have the 2 new Air Force One planes ready until 2029. The old planes were built in 1990. Medicaid is run by the states not the Federal Government. This posted today from Congress: “Here’s the truth about Medicaid:

🔴1.4 million illegals currently receive it.

🔴1 million claim it in multiple states

🔴1 million receive Medicaid AND Obamacare.

Eliminating fraud isn’t controversial. It’s our job.” Once this fraud is eliminated there will be more money to help those who really need it. 🙏💜

Discussing the !&@“ plane here is totally political. But I’ll bite. Because money needs to be spent on dementia research, treatment and care.

It’s a gift. Once that will require millions of dollars to retrofit for Air Force One for what- a year or so? After his term, it gets pulled out of service to be an ornament. It may be titled to the government, but its not for the government’s long term use.

The 40 year old plans are safe to fly if they wouldn’t be flying as Air Force One. Why spend millions to retrofit a plane that won’t be used for more than 2 years of it’s useful life. There is an Air Force One already being built. We’ve committed to that and money will be spent on it/ so why spend more money on a temporary plane?

Anyone that’s concerned about waste, fraud, or the use of money for medical research should be concerned about spending the USA’s money on a 2 year plane.

—I am climbing off my soapbox and apologizing for taking over the discussion of Medicaid cuts—. All of you now know why I dislike political discussions on the forum Sends my blood pressure sky high

I guess some people just needed to vent. That was not my intention, Anyway, let us admit we all our under permanent stress. I laughed at the now deleted description of me as a Rachel Madow latte drinking person. Like most of you I fall into bed exhausted every night as soon as my DH does. Nighttime TV. Not!

Like a lot of you I try to deal with stress with laugher. Here was the last 48 hours. At breakfast two mornings ago my husband complained about the kids in our living room. No kids were there. At lunch I then had to tell him gently why it was not a good idea to call his mom who died 40 years ago. Then he wet his pants in the afternoon. Okay. He changed his underwear but put his wet chinis on again That night he woke me up yelling to turn on the lights. He pointed out the imaginary things crawling on the floor and the noise they were making. I calmed him down. Finally the next morning he got dressed by himself. He had on a long sleeve shirt with a tee pulled over it. For bottoms he pulled on a pair of shorts with no underwear. Later , he changed his slippers for a walk by putting on sandals with handkerchiefs instead of socks. This morning I got him into the shower which MADE my day.

My days probably are not different than most of your I suspect. If someone is the object of anger or scorn as I was here I suggest we all deal with it with grace. I cannot imagine the burden another person carries. It has been hard for me to put my DH on the wait list for MC. I am grieving, not guilty. I know I have to do it for his and mine safety. Let us be kind to each other in this bizarre hard place we all occupy.
