Jury Duty

DH voted in the last election. The ballot was long, and he only voted for a few that he knew, but he voted. Our jury summons are pulled from the voting lists.

Today’s mail had a notice for DH that his name was pulled for Grand Jury duty. No way can DH be on a jury. His short term memory is almost nil.
There was a link listed for a jury questioner. I went online and filled it out for him. When it asked if he could speak, read, and understand English, I noted difficulty understanding. For the question that asked if he had a health impediment that would prevent you from serving I noted he had a dementia diagnosis. At the end it asked if someone else had filled out the form. I truthfully said yes.

Hopefully, that gets him pulled from the jury pool. If not, it will be time for a letter from the neurologist.

I had a similar experience to yours. DW got summoned for jury duty. I filled out the questionnaire as truthfully as possible. I requested a letter from the neurologist just in case, but never needed to use it. Apparently they just took my word on this.

A couple years later I got summoned for jury duty. I indicated I was a full time caregiver for DW. Again I had the letter available, but never needed to use it.

Sending a doctor's note to the jury manager will surely get DW excused. That was my experience with my DW.

grand jury is a year long commitment. I was on one, lots of work. You should very easily be able to get your husband out of that. Good luck.

you can have them permanently removed from voter rolls and jury duty with a dementia diagnosis.

I did the same thing you did when my wife was called for jury duty, and never heard any more about it.

I remember stressing over this when my DW was still at home. I sent a note with Dr. phone number and name, as well as her neurologist's name and number, explaining her Alzheimer's dementia symptoms. I think once they have the health information, the file gets put on the back burner. They don’t want to waste time and risk embarrassment by conducting an interview just to confirm there are health issues. Hopefully it’ll be okay. The stress sucks! Hang in there.
