Worried

Taking my DH on a 2 hrs trip. He has VD and Alz. Early stages but has lots of anxiety. I so worried first time this far from home. There will be about 30 people there( all my famil). Just making me sorta nervous. Oh well gonna try might be the last time I see some of my aunts and uncles.

Deep breaths. Perhaps you can ask some relatives to take turns watching your husband? That might ease the burden of anxiety.

Ronda, is there someplace at your destination where he could sit quietly and maybe watch some television? Is there a bedroom where he could lie down and take a nap? 30 people will probably be pretty overwhelming for him but this trip seems important to you so I’m glad you’re going. I took my husband to our grandson’s wedding about 500 miles away three years ago. Our daughter and son-in-law helped make the trip possible. Everyone was very good about sitting next to him and talking to him so he didn’t feel left out. It was difficult, but it was doable. I wish you well. Please let us know how it goes.

Planning a nap place is an excellent suggestion. Last family trip I made with my DH he was overwhelmed for a bit and took a nap,

FWIW: I recently took DW on a 4 hour trip to visit relatives and was anticipating a grueling drive and disturbing conversations with family. She is in late stage 6 AD. The trip and the time there was much better than I had feared. Your trip may also be better than you think.

Good luck! I've reached a point that things go better when someone comes along to help. 2 hours isn't that long, I hope. If there is a soothing place for him or some family to assist by taking him under their wings it may help.

We just came home from a short vacation (2 hours driving) and I am so glad that I invited my mom and stepdad. It was a roller coaster ride from checking in (he had a meltdown with staff while waiting for room keys). They almost called security. I explained about his mild VD and apologized. He didn’t recall being rude afterwardsz

Thank you everyone for your replies. On the drive there he was showing anxiety. Didn't know where we were ect. (Has been there multiple times) . Once there and after all the hellos and so fort and he had a place to settle in ,it was great. My family did great with him and there was always someone talking to him so he didn't feel left out. So glad we went.
