Good morning. Sunny and quite warm already here.

Judith— DH just walked by my screen and admired the breakfast picture you posted. He's normally a bowl of cereal-with-his-meds kind of guy but has been on a breakfast-for-dinner thing the last week or so. I'm fine with that but DS complains and often sulks off for a burrito bowl at Chipotle.

Lorita— Some of the consequences of recent decisions are heartbreaking. USAID not only helps feed people who would otherwise go hungry, the money spent of food goes to farmers in this country. It's a lose-lose IMO.

Beth— The goblet squat looks a bit like the ones I do with the dumbbells on my shoulders. Cherry pie is probably the best of the pies. I have a friend who used to bake these when her mom bought pie cherries from the Amish in Lancaster County. Her mom would even pit them for her.

DS just went out to mow. It's been raining for days, and the grass is getting up there. He's working tomorrow and Sunday which would be better weather. It's 78F and very humid. The swales still have standing water, so they won't get done. He wanted to start at 6:30 but we have a noise ordinance to prevent that even though the township's crews are out by 7am.

Lady Z— I wish you success with your implants. I hope you come away happy you did it. My mom swears they're one of the best things she ever did for herself. Not just the secure teeth, but they also improved her appearance; the addition of the posts and grafts built up her mouth area which had been caving in a bit.

Gothic G— A quick google search lists TV commercials for Toyota and Gap using "Everyday People" which is a pretty catchy tune.

Iris— I prefer the steel-cut variety when I make a bowl of oatmeal. I prefer the flavor and texture. My go-to go-withs are some combination of walnuts, dried cherries, raisins, blueberries, bananas and dark brown sugar. Now I'm wanting that for breakfast.

Carl— It is criminal the things we didn't learn in high school back-in-the-day. My dad taught high school history, so my history education was well-supplemented whether I wanted it or not.

Ron— Good luck with your photographer. Do they do the over-the-top stage ala HGTV in your neck of the woods? In my neighborhood which generally sells very quicky, they do this which is crazy. It's very popular. A friend sold hers and her mom's house when she had a place built for mom to move in. The realtor had her clear off her counters except for a bowl of lemons and replace all the bath towels with fluffy white ones.

Jerilynn— A fruit trifle sounds lovely. I'm sure the ladies would agree.

Mint— My little pots out front on my stoop look beat up from the rain. I need to get out there and deadhead some of them. At the moment they look very mangy.

Well, in the time it took to post this DS managed to run over a shepard's crook the landscapers tossed into the lawn. The tractor lost one of the cowls and is making a ghastly sound when the blade is running. At least he got the front done and the spring-rush is over at the John Deere dealer— they'll collect it later today. I swear every time I fix something on my to-do list, another task makes itself known. I'm waiting on a power wash/painting estimate because it's time for that as well.

    Morning all….

HB I'm sorry but I laughed at your statement saying you cross something off the to-do list and another task makes itself known. Your speaking my language there. Cross off one thing and two more happen. I'm waiting for our neighbor to go on vacation to get the sidewalk & driveway power washed. I have to wait because he's been very kind and done it for us, but its just a quick job and well, it looks like it. I certainly don't want to hurt his feelings, so when they are on vacation I'll have it done properly!

My car is needing a bath desperately. I like having a clean car & right now it isn't. So before its way to hot for me I'm off to clean her up. Back later.

    Let's be safe out there.

Morning, already hot and.humid with not a bit of wind. I opened the front door to let the GPs out and Rusty was on the bannister eating sunflower seeds. I froze and watched him a while. He is so cute. I filled the bird feeders and put out peanuts and more sunflower seeds for him. Girls are standing in the pond to.cool off - their favorite place, plus the barn, in the summer.

Just ordered another grab-it. I broke one a couple of years ago Carrying a snake outside and the replacement I ordered was collapsible so that wouldn't work to carry something heavy. Cats have wonderful, long memories —when the cats go into the bathroom they check out the corners, under the dresser and chair checking for snakes. Guess that's a good thing.

Need to find that decipe. I'm hungry for chocolate gravy now. Need to order a can of biscuits or make some.

The OKC Thunder could win the playoffs tonight, the first for them. So, Thunder up!!

Found the recipe for chocolate gravy first page of a book where I have written good recipes.

Ingredients: 2 cups water, 1\2 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 T. Flour, pinch of salt. Bring the water to a boil (we always used a skillet), mix dry ingredients and whisk into the boiling water. Cook and whisk until thickened. Serve hot with butter and hot biscuits.

Now I need to make a couple of biscuits. Hope you all enjoy.

GG, very cool that you are doing martial arts. I do resistance training, impact and some cardio. The goblet squat/Asian squat/horse stance is a very wide legged low squat that you hold isometrically for a period of time. Beginners, aim for 30 seconds; experienced, anywhere from 2 - 10 minutes.

I have eaten Prickly Pea cheese cake. It was delish!

Iris…do you watch movies? I could suggest a few. I watch Jeopardy and the morning news…not much else.

Ron…a cabin like a log cabin?

I eat the steel cut oats too…they are healthier.

Today a handyman is coming. I am very excited.

Upstairs A/C was going to cost @20K….I called the guy my SIL uses. He put in coolant and said if push came to shove he could replace the coil for 3K. Whew!

GG…what kind of law do you practice? After my husband stopped flying he went back to law school…his area was aviation law.

    Humid!!!!!

Lorita. You are so right, cats have fabulous memories. It amazing me at times, the things they remember.

Ron. That drive sounds like one that you will enjoy. Just take your time and stop often. I only had two post put in for the lowers. I was lucky I never had to think about the glue. When the dentist snapped in the lower denture yesterday, I was afraid I would have problems getting it out, I'm so glad I had no problem. I have not put them in yet, I'm still thinking about it 🤔 😅 😕

GG. Yes, I do like the end results. Dentist, said it may take time, getting used to them, I'm not a patient person, so I hope it doesn't take too long. We go to yoga tonight, I will probably not ware my teeth. 😅 I would hate for them to fall out.

HB. Thank you for the wish of success, this was something I was not really wanting to do, but my daughter and dentist convinced me it would be better for my health to do it.

Beth. I'm glad I'm in beginner yoga, there is no way, I could do squats, not even 30 seconds. I would fall on my butt, just trying to do it. Someday, I might get brave and give it a try.

We got 112 yesterday, supposed to be 113, today. I miss the Oregon, weather.

    Good day, Hugs Zetta

Today is Juneteenth, Freedom Day. The weather is great for celebration.

Lorita, my cats don't seem to have long memories, perhaps because they are older.

Carl, I drove for seven hours ten years ago. It was hard on me, I won't do that again. Are you up to making that long trip alone, even with breaks? If you do, stay nourished and hydrated and take long breaks.

I am in favor of decreasing aid to Africa. Foreign aid is one of the factors keeping African nations from developing. African businesses cannot compete with free aid. Africans need businesses and trade, not handouts. Other nations that were dirt poor are now rich, examples are Japan, Korea, Singapore, even China. The Marshall Plan aided post-WWII Europe temporarily, now they are rich through commerce. Africa needs commerce!

I do not want one if thise. Bryon and Wyatt, his son, came and mowed, weed eated and cleared the north yard fence. I now have a probably 8 ft. Elm growing to replace its mother. They tried four different ways to get here before they made it. Culvert s are out, roads flooded, etc. Heat index was over 100 today. I was in and out, mostly in. I so hate being the little, old lady who needs help doing things. Not built that way but guess that's the way it is to be.

Time to lay down and watch the ballgame..

    Good night, sleep tight.

HB & Carl - I agree - so much we didn't learn in high school history (or civics). I can't believe I was an adult before I learned about Juneteenth - and it's an important day.

I love oatmeal - I've been known to even eat it for dinner. I don't put much on it - brown sugar, maybe. I really like the taste and texture. Steel-cut oats are my favorite as well.

Beth - I asked my trainer about goblet squats this morning. He said "oh, you do those." Turns out they're also known as "sumo squats". Sometimes I hold the weight, but only when I'm down in the squat position. I can't hold the weight up by my shoulders because I have a rotator cuff injury and holding a weight like that would wreck me.

Judith - I worked for non-profits for all of my legal career, including one that I started up with my law partner. We focused on privacy, especially consumer privacy. And because the First Amendment is the flip side of privacy, we worked a lot in that space as well. It was good, satisfying work. I largely stepped away from it during the last year of my dad's life when he needed a lot of care, and when I was taking care of Peggy. Now I'm contemplating going back to it.

Lorita - thank you for posting the recipe for chocolate gravy! I'm going to try it over the weekend. It sounds wonderful.

Tomorrow night we're going to the "Catwalk Reunion". The Catwalk was a goth cub way back in the day in Pioneer Square in Seattle. They had a reunion this last April, and it was fun. There was a small handful of people in their 20s and 30s, but the vast majority were in their 60s and 70s. It was great seeing all of us old people out on the dance floor - and with all of our gothic dance moves intact! I'm sure tomorrow will be just as fun. I'm looking forward to it. The only thing I'm not looking forward to are the "steps of doom" aka the "stairs of death". In order to get inside the club you have to go down a flight of very steep steps …… we are all very, very careful. We know how old we are.

I heard from my stepson today, he is back in his home country for a few months.

My friend who has Parkinson's Disease fell in her room and was not found for a few hours. She is in the hospital now. She lives in a rooming house. I don't know if she will be able to go back there, because there are a lot of stairs.

    That's all. Good night.

Good morning! It's 70 and breezy at sunrise, so I'm going out to enjoy it as soon as I finish my oatmeal and coffee. We are celebrating the first day of summer by "enjoying" 90+ degree heat and high humidity for a heat index of 100+ 😎

I had chicken, rice, and broccoli with a chocolate dessert and a glass of milk for lunch at the senior center yesterday. It only cost $4 and gave me someone to talk to.

The senior center has a "food truck" delivery each Wednesday, in which one of the convenience store chains gives us the leftover sandwiches and snacks. I wasn't there for the food truck, but there were some spicy ramen noodle soup bowls that no one wanted. I took them home to use when I make soup. I'll throw away the spicy seasoning packets and dump the noodles into the soup instead of buying a package of noodles.

Morning, already 85 and the heat index will be about 105 today. I think I'll stay inside except for filling the water tank for the girls. Still have the barn closed off so they're staying in shades south of the house. I have a water tank out there so will fill It.

Thank you, Mint, for the birthday wish. Actually it's tomorrow so you're the first with birthday wishes. Hard to believe it's here again. This past year has gone fast. How did I get to.be 83- I was 52 last week, it seems like.

The yard looks better but still have some limbs down and one broken up very high. Even had one big mulberry die at the back. Bryon says he can take care of them. I would rather pay him instead of a tree company.

GPs are outside and enjoying it for now. They'll be back inside before long. I need to get Jerry's card to the mailbox so will stop for now. Again, thank you, Mint. Back later.

    Good morning

Happy Birthday Lorita. I hope you can get some outside time before the heat kicks in big time. One more basketball game!

Good for you Carl. Getting out and being socially active is important. Just chatting with someone over lunch / dinner is so good mentally.

Are you ready to pull your hair out? At our 5th Street Cafe group a newish member just thought he had the most brilliant idea ever for his LO. He wants to purchase a Tesla for his LO. He thinks she can just go sit in it and say "go to the grocery store" and she just sits there. Or "take me to the doctors" and it knows which doctors office she needs to go to. He's thinking its her personal Urber. Now in theory, it might be a good plan, but in reality we all know it can't work. He's assuming she even knows where she wants to go, which most of the time she does not. (As back ground, they are both just past mid 70's. He refuses to retire because he doesn't want to be home with her all day. She has a fiery temper around him. He says, they have separate wings of the house and separate bedrooms. Both are as stubborn as the day is long.) Personally doesn't sound like a very loving relationship, but apparently its been this way forever. Everyone just looked at him with his Tesla idea.

Need to toss a load of laundry in before today's Zoom. Today's program is at the Amon Carter Museum of Art, so it will certainly be wonderful. Let's be safe everyone.

Thank you, Ron and Eagle. Ron, this is just me but if I am hesitant or worried about something, I tend to not do it. The move for you would be good in that you will be near family but for some reason you're not sure about the move, maybe memories of the life you and Lou had in that houśe. Think about it a while, nothing is set in stone. Weather is awfully hot for you to make an eight hour drive alone.

I think I wss close to overdoing it a while ago. I had to wade through mud to move the water tank and put boards under it to level it.. Got the water running, then cut all the saplings in the yard fence. So many elms have come up there plus some black walnuts. Just kept going but got it done. After all of that, the girls are up at the MH in the shade today instead of down here. Anyway, it's done when they do come back down.

Took Jerry's card to the mailbox and found a package UPS had left down there. Can't get in touch with them to comp!ain- again.

Really am not happy with the way the meadow is looking and some pastureland. Maybe too much water p!us no fertilize. Hopefully, they will recover. Temp is in mid 90s with heat index of 102.

When I went to the mailbox I picked some pretty, white flowers. They are tall with umbrella of lacy, white flowers. Years ago we transplanted some of them and they came back a couple of years. At that time I found they were some kind of ditch weed. Just now looked them up and they are either Queen Anne's Lace or Poison Hemlock. I can't really differentiate so threw them away and washed my hands. Better not transplant them so will let them grow at our entryway across from the mailbox.

    good morning

Ron, I hope your house sells today.

Happy birthday Lorita. Hopefully I’ll get my calendar right next year.

Beautiful flowers, Jerry Lynn. My coneflowers and daisies are both about to bloom. Several of my coneflowers got blowed over by the strong winds we had the other day though. usually they’re pretty tough. I’ve never really had them to blow over before. I think we must just had so much rain and the ground is so soft. I did discover I have at least three little green tomatoes, that made my day. They’re on the plants that I planted. I also planted some tomato seeds, but they did not come up well. I’ve never had that issue before. So I’m going to have to look and see where I bought the seeds from that did not come up well. The only thing is, I only bought from companies that I’ve bought from in the past so I’ve not had that problem before I don’t really know. The few seeds that did sprout the warm weather of the last few days is making them start to grow. They were slow at first. But hopefully that’ll just give me a long season of tomatoes.
