Greetings,

I am the primary caregiver for my mother who has Alzheimer's we live in NYC. I am having a hard time finding a therapist who knows how to support me through this process and finding support in general. This is my first time on this post.

Thanks

Welcome. We are not therapists here, but we are definitely here to listen. This is a great place for ideas on how to handle a difficult situation, or vent about a rough day. You will find people here that are going through many of the same struggles. Maybe that’s strange, but I think it helps to know you’re not alone. There are also a lot of great resources available here. Since we are from all over the country I’m not sure there will be anyone here that can recommend a specific therapist near you. You might try your local commission on aging for resources such as in home help, financial/ Medicaid help.

I agree that it is difficult to find a therapist that really understands what you are going through, but they are still someone to talk to. This forum is very helpful and people here do understand and have great advice. So sorry you are here but glad you found us.

Local Alz support groups are good too.

welcome. Sorry about your Mom. You can call the toll free number at the top of the page for the Alzheimer’s Organization. They may know of resources in your area. I found this online forum to be the best help and support I could have found. The caregivers here helped me so much. If you haven’t done so, read the book “The 36 Hour Day” which helped me. Also search online for Alzheimer’s caregiving videos. Come here often for info and support.
