New member caregiver needing a support group

I would like to connect with other spouses whose loved one is in assisted living. I've tried Alz.support groups with all caregivers, but having DH in a facility (just starting year 6) creates some different feelings than when he was home.

I am trying to get some kind of in person group started with the families of residents of the facility my wife is in. So far it is not going very good there is only one other family member that I have been able to meet with and she is a sister-in-law of a resident, so it is different than another spouses. The facility is providing a room to meet in and one of the staff is also working to help get a group started. I agree it is a different feeling. My wife has been in MC for about 15 months.

My situation is even more bizarre. My DH has been in mcf for 2 years but is now almost back to normal with the right combo of med, no memory issues except the dark period at the onset of this roller coaster ride. My dilemma is whether I should bring him home. But what if his Mr. Hyde surfaces again? Even his neurologist is confounded by DH's anomaly. Depakote was added to treat DH's combativeness and aggression, but his memory returned including no more urinary incontinence.

Welcome. This is a great forum for you to interact with caregivers whose spouses are in memory care. Feel free to ask any question or just come to vent. We understand how you feel and what you’re going through. I don’t know what I would have done without this group. Read through some of the old posts. You can search for specific words. You can also call the toll free number at the top of the main page to see if they know of any resources. Some teaching hospitals have memory care groups that have support groups if you live near one.

My husband had genetic testing and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, what other test did your loved one get besides a MRI0

@donnpolly you might get more responses by starting a new thread from the main thread screen.
@GoldieK my spouse is heading for three years in memory care. His facility runs a support group but I don't attend because it is during my work hours. Also, I feel that I get the support I need on this board. Before he was placed I went to an in-person support group in my town that was super helpful and led me to the excellent facility he lives in.
