I received notice today that my mother’s memory care facility is permanently closing. She moved in September 2024 and has finally started to learn her way around and trust the staff

I am angry and stressed. I know a move will not be good for her. And I am alarmed by this change.

Is anyone else going through these sudden changes? We went through so much before placement and these last few months have been a relief for everyone. Until today

I haven't experienced the closing of my husband's memory care, but he may have to move to a nursing home and the thought of starting all over again is overwhelming. I can only imagine what you're feeling. Sorry.

I'd ask a few of the staff that you think highly of where they think they will be going and check out those places. Get on waiting lists etc.

so sorry. I’ve been on this forum for a couple of years and I’ve never heard of a facility closing. That’s terrible. I hope you find another good facility and your Mom settles in quickly. Hugs.

I am so sorry to hear of your situation. I do not have any personal experience with that, but am led to wonder if this closure is what will be occurring nationwide with the passage of the "Big Beautiful Bill." I just read that many facilities that accept Medicaid clients maybe evicting them or be forced to totally close down their business. I hope it is not that, but I fear it is.😭 Feel free to ask any member who sits on the Board of Directors for an explanation, and for a recommendation/referral to comparable facilities.🙏🏽

I haven't experienced your situation, but it's a possibility I've considered as I watch changes in management and state/national policy. I agree with the suggestion to talk with staff that you trust. Word on the street is often more helpful than corporate advertising.
