Dementia Cruises/Vacations

Options

When I searched this topic, I came up with a thread from a few years ago. Has anyone had recent experience with a travel company that takes specialized trips for PWD and their caregiver?

I don’t have experience but Elite Cruises have travel for dementia and caregivers.

I do not know if I understand your question.

However, based on my experience, I went on a cruise with my pwd in April. We did not use any particular company. We booked directly with the cruiseline. There were more than 12 of us in the group. 6 of us were aware of the health concerns and were tasked with keeping an extra close watch.

The 8 days went without a hitch and without an issue, thankfully. PWD enjoyed themselves and was never aware that they were being observed and protected.

I took a cruise several years ago with a company focused on being oriented towards PWD and caregivers. I believe it was the first offering from the company. It was all right although I did have a bad experience. The owner may be more experienced now and doing better.

Oh my gosh! I wish I would have known about this a couple of years ago. While it is pretty spendy, it is the equivalent of 2-3 months of memory care and my DH would have LOVED these outings. It would have made a great transition option when he still wanted to travel, but I couldn't do it on my own with him. Thank you for posting this for others to check out!

Thanks for the replies- surprisingly no one seems to have been on one of the Elite dementia friendly cruises recently, but it may be worth checking out! We went on a small ship/light expedition cruise 3 years ago and had a good time. DH was just starting to ask the same people the same questions again and again. Now I’m afraid he would be quite annoying to other passengers on a regular cruise and I would construe uncomfortable. I’ll look at the Elite possibility.
