Hi I'm looking for some support and guidance on dealing with my mother having dementia she was diagnosed with it at the beginning of the year and we're halfway through the year I have watched the person I love the most go from super woman to having to depend on her children now for things that used to be so easy for her. I know I'm not alone but sometimes it feels like it I do have help I just need to learn to start speaking up when I need a break and to utilize the tools and people I have in my life for support.

You are at the right place to get support, virtual though it maybe.

My mom was officially diagnosed in December. She and I are both RNs and it is heartbreaking to see this very smart woman regress back to being an 8-12 year old before my very eyes.

Yes, do tap into your support system. You can not afford to suffer caregivers' burnout, which this disease is prime example of root cause.

Come here frequently, and as needed. We are all on the same journey. Those ahead of us, have a lot to teach us. We just have to be willing to learn.🫂

Welcome. Since you are new to this I want to point out how important it is to get legal matters handled. A durable power of attorneys (DPOA), medical power of attorney, a will and a living will are the basics. I have also attached a few resources that I have found helpful.

This is a good staging tool

    Just a good article.

This is helpful for the DPOA

I hope you find something here helpful.

welcome. I’m so sorry you’re coping with your mom’s diagnosis. Think of this as a marathon not a sprint: you will see a lot of changes, it will not be easy, and caretaking is NOT for the faint of heart. It takes a toll. You’re definitely not alone and I’m glad you found this community. It’s been a godsend for me.

Welcome. Sorry about your Mom’s diagnosis. One thing that helped me was the book “The 36 Hour Day” and Tam Cummings videos online. Also this online community. Feel free to ask any questions or just come here to vent. Caregiving is mentally and physically exhausting. Glad you have a support network. We all know what you’re going through. You’re not alone.
