DH Angry Outbursts are Overwhelming me

My DH was diagnosed back in 2019. In the last 2 years the angry Dementia Monster has been getting stronger.

We started him on Anti-psychotics in March and it was great for two months. We then increased his dosage in June. Yesterday and today have been extraordinarily BAD. only a month after the increase in dosage.

Has anyone else experienced this with medications? I am reaching out to the Neurologist, but curious of others' experiences.

He is just a hair away from becoming physically violent and I am his only caregiver. There is no one else and this weighs on me something terrible. I don't think I can take care of him if he were to turn violent. He is much too aware and able to imagine placing him in a facility any time soon.

This sounds just like my situation , but my husband is not on meds. Just today he knocked me down and doesn't remember and left me down on the floor and said he didn't do anything. I too am alone, and since he is so aggressive no one can get near him or would leave since he is also mean and violent. Have an appointment for a lumbar puncture for more accurate diagnosis.

I wouldn't wait for a crisis or violence, I would talk to the Doc about some adjustment in meds. DW is on Seroquel due to hostility and paranoia and is in stage 6, but the correct dosage has helped keep things civil for 8 years now. It took a couple adjustments, trial and error, but it continues to work. Your safety may be at risk if you don't take some corrective action before an incident. 🙏

With my DW, it took over a year and multiple medication increases to find the right dosages. She has been doing well on the current regimen for the last 4 months. She is on citalopram and seroquel.

what medication is he on? My DH could not tolerate Mirtazapine. It made him more anxious. They changed it to Risperidone and that helped. If you don’t feel safe, call 911 and have him taken to the hospital and admitted to the geripsyche unit until they get his medication adjusted properly. Have a safe place in your home where you can lock the door. Have a go bag handy in case you have to leave. You can be in danger. If he is violent a memory care facility won’t accept him.

He needs medication. If he does that again, call 911 and have him admitted to the geripsyche unit so they can put him on meds to control his aggression. You are in danger. Have a safe place to lock yourself in and have a go bag handy in case you need to leave.

He is on medications. I have no reticence to calling 911 if it is warranted.
