It’s like the song “white rabbit.” I feel like Alice in Wonderland. “When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead.” There is no logic and some days I’m thrown completely off. Example: every night for at least 6 months, my husband asks what the two pills are he takes each night. I tell him antidepressants. He then asks if he’s depressed. Yes, you are and have been most of your life. He wants to only take one pill, I tell him he must take two. Why? Because you are depressed. He takes the two. TODAY he tells me he’s very depressed and thinks maybe he should take an anti depressant. Then he’s shocked to hear he already takes them and tells me they must not be working and he needs to take more. I don’t have a poker face so he looks at me and says “what?” Just change my name to Alice and introduce me to that hookah smoking caterpillar and I will be happy.

Unfortunately that is the life we are living with ALZ. Sometimes I think it is like One flew over the Coocoos nest.

very familiar…actually I have a hookah pipe from my international traveling days. Maybe time to break it out. Just a few weeks ago, I have water coming out of the ceiling in three places, the dishwasher and shower handle somehow got broken, smoke detector is going off, mice running around in the garage and he says “ can we go for a ride, we never go anywhere “

Every day these are just a few of the things that DH gets wrong that I must ignore or find a way to correct without causing further confusion:

No need to charge phone yet. (He is reading battery level percentage left, not minutes left).

Our son-in-law’s name is Jon not Randy.

No need to charge hearing aids in the middle of the day, only at night.

Socks go on with heels down not on top of the foot.

Electric toothbrush has to be turned on for it to work.

We have granddaughters not grandsons.

We are not leaving on a trip tomorrow (no travel plans)

It can be exhausting as these types of things happen over and over and over again. It is a constant reminder of what he is losing, the shortness of his memory and how much I long for the life we had before Alzheimer’s moved in with us.

Exactly how I’m feeling too. All the losses like a big rolling snowball. For the last year and a half, twice a day, I’ve reached my hand out to my dh to place his medicine into his palm. He always has a comment about how many pills there are. Yesterday and today he just looked confused and mimicked my hand.

Thanks for the song…been playing it in my head all day. But now it’s playing on my stereo with the my hookah beside me cause the “ the white knight is talking backwards”……again😳
