My husband and I have been touring assisted living/memory care facilities with a woman who works for Oasis . Their company assists with finding the right facility for a loved one. Company offers the service for free and is located in multiple states. The cost for care is different in each facility. Assisted living facilities we toured started at 5,000 a month before additional fees for medication assistance, dressing, showering etc. Memory care is ranging from 8,000-12,000 a month. So far, the places we toured charged a flat fee without additional charges for care in memory care.

Get on a wait list asap. They will require a deposit of 500.00 or more. Make sure it is refundable. They will keep you on this list indefinitely and call as rooms become available. You can accept or decline. If you don’t have long term care insurance, talk to a social worker and find out the options to pay. Medicaid is an option if you don’t have the money to cover care. However, in my experience with other family members, the facilities that accept Medicaid or the Medicaid funded areas of facilities are not the best.
Each facility will hold a state license. That license determines the care that is permitted. Some facilities do not have skilled nursing care under their license. Ask what doctors are on a rotation for the facility. Ask if physical therapy is available, what activities are available, look at the menu. Research if there have been complaints. Talk to family members of residents who are living there.

You can go to an elder law attorney to see how to qualify for Medicaid.

I second going to a certified elder care attorney for advice and help getting medicaid coverage. The requirements vary by state. Here is a link to state by state income requirements. There are also a number of older posts I found on this forum discussing medicaid eligibility.

I have heard of oasis ND they are suppose to be really good and free as said before. So if your state has one I'd use them plus the elder care lawyer
