Adult Daycare?

Do any adult children caring for parents use adult daycare? In the past year my dad has lost 25 pounds and his memory is rapidly declining. Excessive outbursts anger. Also experiencing fatigue and anxiety. My mom manages this with my help. It has been effecting my mom to be the constant security blanket for him. Do others use adult daycare? I work but take most Wednesdays with him. I have teenagers. I do all appointments. I do all medications. I purchase high calorie / high protein shakes. I cook for them at least 2 meals a week. How do people afford adult daycare? Is there any grant program I can apply for?

A relative used adult day care, it worked very well for her, although sometimes it does not. Worth a try. Have you discussed the anger issues with his doctor? It is not as expensive as a home aid, but still pricey. What I have heard mentioned on here is that the PWD goes a few days a week, or half days. I think some small grants exist, try contacting your Area Agency on Aging.

look up your County Agency on Aging. Many have used adult care. Your Dad needs to be calm first. Talk to the doctor about anti anxiety meds. Another resource is Hospice. If he is declining rapidly and has lost weight he may qualify. Ask for a referral by his PCP. Hospice will re-evaluate him every 6 months. They offer so much help.
