A little tip about door locks

The first time DH locked himself in the bathroom I realized that I don’t have keys to those locks or to the bedroom doors. I bought emergency key pins to open the push button locks. These worked for me, but maybe even a little screwdriver would work. Just make sure you have a way to open all locks so you can get in if they can’t come out or they won’t come out (we never had kids so it wasn’t something I thought about till it happened). Same with outside doors. Make sure that there’s an emergency key outside somewhere accessible. DH has locked me out more than once both by accident and on purpose.

Great tip, thanks! Having never had children I never gave any thought to locking interior doors.

Those lavatories are so confusing even for the best of us! So glad there was a sympathetic flight attendant there for you.

thanks for posting this. One day I went out on our screened in patio at our apartment and was reading a book. I didn’t notice that my DH, who was stage 5 at the time, locked the door! I couldn’t get back in. He finally came looking for me and unlocked the door. I was out there over an hour trying to get in. It never occurred to me to take a key with me.

DH locked us both out of the house just once. I learned that lesson really quickly. We waited for locksmith for an hour to get back in. I have a hide a key now placed outside.

Learned this, first hand, this week too! I just replaced the bathroom knob with one that doesn't lock. Usually have house key outside, but have also unlocked a convenient window (just in case).

Out of the 3 exterior doors we have, I think I have found one that may be best for both an escape hatch and an entry point. Ferreting this out has helped set my mind at ease.

I removed the lock from the bathroom door because I was worried DH would lock himself in and not be able to get out. I also put keys to the storm doors in the outdoor lockbox so that he can not lock the storm doors and lock me out. I have an alarm on the back door too.
