Another UTI
My husband has yet another UTI but we were able to keep him out of the hospital this time. He is non-symptomatic when he has one. He was hospitalized a few months ago for 3 days with a UTI, pneumonia and sepsis. He was so disoriented in the hospital, trying to leave, get out of bed, pulling out IV tubes, etc. He doesn't remember any of the 3 days. I learned that an infection increases the blood pressure, so when he began getting cold and shaking the other day, I took his blood pressure and it was high for him 143/97. I took him to urgent care and it was a UTI. We were able to start him on antibiotics and he is getting better. This is not medical advice, just something I learned and it worked for us.

A good reminder. Thanks.
That said, the first-time mom (who doesn't have dementia) had a "silent" UTI, she presented with a change in personality bordering on belligerent. I'd taken her for a balance PT appointment and the PT picked up on something being off immediately. She took mom's BP and it was 187/100; her PCP in the same building didn't have an opening so she was turfed to the ED. She was kept overnight and recovered without incident. About 4 month later, she called to report feeling unwell. Weak and tired this time. I took her BP at home; she was 87/62 so we headed to the ED again. I had to physically support her into the building. Another UTI— same bug, too.
I'm glad you were able to avoid the hospital.
