Iris, I think you're right. The censor deleted the name of a popular cleanser because it contains a word that is an ethnic slur.

"Politically correct" was originally a Stalinist term. In the old USSR, an academic paper on Economics would begin by stating that the author assumed that socialism was more efficient than capitalism, whether the paper had anything to do with efficiency or no. It didn't matter if what you said was true, if it was politically incorrect you went to the Gulag.

I would think that adults would not need a censor to keep us from calling each other DELETED or DELETED, but who knows?

Iris, that kitten is beautiful.. Glad the weather out there is warm enough for it to survive outside. I think of Lilly being outside in our cold weather trying to survive among bales of hay for shelter with nothing to eat except what she could catch. Thank goodness Darwin was able to catch her and take her home. She is sweet but now has decided a good place to lay is on top of the stove.

Made my potato soup and added diced, cooked potatoes and some green beans. Need to look for that frozen cornbread.

Received another big dog bed -:makes four so Sheena can get up easier in more places.

Judith, it's on a shelf in the lower part of the cabinet. It was fine until it did this. I will ask the tech tomorrow. The sun is shining again as it did this morning but still cold.

HB - doctors asking about falls —- I haven't had that question yet, but I know it's coming. I have gotten the "medicare wellness" annual check though. You know, do some math, draw a clock face, etc. So far, so good.

Also, it's seasonably cold and dark here. I got up this morning at 8:15 and I swear it felt like it was 6am, it was so dark.

Your deck is very pretty, but also alarming.

sandwichone - Guilty as charged!! 😄 But being from California, I come by my weather wimpiness honestly.

I've only been to Albuquerque once, and enjoyed it. I also enjoyed my drive-by of Shiprock.

Barbara - 100 degrees is a bit warm, but so long as I have some shade somewhere, I'm happy to have the heat.

Ron - my significant other has just grown out his beard for the winter. He'll probably shave it off sometime in February.

Lorita - Dick Van DELETED looks great for his age, doesn't he? I saved the site censors some time and just typed in 'DELETED' myself.

Iris - I suppose it'd be really difficult for me to be able to discuss Pride events in San Francisco. In the Castro (where I lived), the day before Pride is Pink Saturday, and there are all manner of festivities going on - the d*y*k*e march, d*y*k*e*s on bikes (so many motorcycles!), etc. Lots of people end up at the corner bar, Moby Dick. (I wonder if that name will get through?)

What a cute little cat! I hope they can somehow get adopted. Every cat my sister ever had was a feral kitty.

eaglemom - I'm glad your bestie had a wonderful birthday party!

As for today - still raining, although not as much. We're paying attention to where the evacuations are occurring - today parts of Kent, Auburn, Renton, and Tukwila were ordered to evacuate, although some of those orders have since been lifted. None of those places are more than 20 min/half hour away from us. Kent, Renton, and Tukwila are between us and SeaTac airport.

100 degrees is too hot for me! I'm with Lorita about not being able to take enough off.

My dad was a teacher when I was growing up, and he'd grow a beard every summer but shave it off before school started. That was when teachers were supposed to have a more conservative look.

My HOA wants to keep feral cats around to chase away rats. I trapped my cat Sammie nine years ago, but I am in no condition to trap or take on a new kitten.

    Good night.

Ha! I just lost at Whamageddon! From wikipedia: Whamageddon is a game played during the 24 days before Christmas in which players try to go from 1 December to the end of Christmas Eve (24 December) without hearing the record "Last Christmas" by British pop duo Wham!. …. if the player hears the record between those days, they are out of the game and have to post "#Whamageddon" on social media to indicate that they have lost. Hearing other recordings of "Last Christmas" does not constitute a loss.

I'm listening to the Death Guild stream (elder goth night!), and the DJs just played Last Christmas by Wham. One of them even posted in the chat that they played it upstairs in the lounge, and downstairs in the main room , so everyone in the club heard it. Crafty DJs!

The things I do on a Monday night at 1am. 😄

Morning .warmer here this morning.but cloudy. Waiting for the.Directv.guy.

Sad to hear about Ron Reiner and his wife being murdered by their son. Just imagine.how traumatic it was for their daughter to find them. We used to watch him on All in the Family.

You are so right, Sweetwater. Charles was a veteran and we both worked for and with our veterans for many years in the VA. Without our veterans there would be no free Country.

Need to get some hot tea and cereal. Enjoy your day.

Still waiting for the tv tech. I called about 11 to see if I had the wrong day. Was told he is running behind but should be here between 1 and 2. He wasn't.
Saw Billy out in the lot so fed him and gave him some hay.. The feed was beginning to mold in the bottom because somehow it got wet. Picked out the two or tree clumps of molded feed and gave him some mire I had in the house. Filling water tank now. The water hose waa still frozen some so got it thawed.
The tech just called. Still about 45 miles away so it will be around 3 before he gets here.

I was awake all night, went to sleep from 9:30 am until 1:15 pm.

I never heard of the Wham game. I must confess, I have not been listening to Christmas songs much this season. This is unusual for me, because I love Christmas songs and music.

Sandwichone, did you know that "pogonotrophy" means growing or cultivating a beard? This is from the Greek word pogon for beard and trophy for growth or development. So your dad was a pogonotrophic fellow over the summer.

We had plenty of fog this morning.

Pogonotrophy is a pretty long word to describe something that is actually the are of doing nothing and let it happen. We don't have to plant or water beards, although occasional shampooing is a good idea.

I'm kind of sad today, as usual at this time of year. I just put a pizza in the oven and consulted my calendar, which informs me that the winter solstice is Sunday, only five days away. Not long now! And it's only nine days until Christmas!

One of my senior center friends bought boxes of popcorn drizzled with Ghirardelli dark chocolate for Christmas presents. The container is in a pretty blue gift box. I'll bet it's delicious.

Ate lunch today with a man who lost his wife in August and is losing a lot of weight. He mumbled something about trying to join his wife. We tried to encourage him to eat and spend more time with other people, like with us at the SC. He would probably benefit from an antidepressant, and I'll try to gently suggest that next time I see him. He doesn't seem like a man who would gladly take meds but we do what we can.

High temp int he 50s today, 60 tomorrow. We have gone from setting records for cold to setting records for heat, all in the course of a week. Welcome to the Midwest!

Lorita - I used to watch All in the Family too. Rob Reiner's character always reminded me of one of my cousins - not his looks or mannerisms, but just what he said and how he said it. It always struck me as kind of funny that his character was so similar to my cousin.

I also saw that Anthony Geary of General Hospital passed away on the same day. He was half of "Luke and Laura". I never watched that show, but my sister watched it religiously, so I knew who those two were.

An article I read mentioned that Anthony Geary was on All in the Family for one episode and shared a scene with Rob Reiner. Kind of strange how some things work out.

Iris - I don't quite understand how Whamageddon became a thing anymore than I understand how Rickrolling became a thing - but there it is. 🙂 The internet is a strange place.

Carl - Ghirardelli dark chocolate …. yummmmm. Take good care of yourself this holiday season.

Today was one of those days we get in the PNW - very, very dark. It was so dark it looked like twilight for most of the day. I didn't even want to get up this morning, but I did.

To brighten the day, we made quesadillas for lunch, along with guacamole and our homemade salsa. That perked me up. Do any of you get Sharwil avocados? We get them in December, sometimes December and January. They're flown in from Hawaii, and they're a lot larger and creamier than regular Haas avocados. Have a peek at your avocado section in the grocery store and see what you have. You won't be sorry.

Tomorrow morning we're having the plumbers come by so I need to finish up with my mid-week cleaning. That's what's next on my list for tonight. I've already finished with shredding and filing.

GG years ago we used to get really big avocados. I think the skin was pretty smooth and they were lighter green than Haas. We grew a plant from one of the seeds and it got to be about four feet tall with what looked like two arms. We took it outside in the summer and brought it inside in the winter. Never bloomed.but it was pretty! The avocados we get here are pretty small.

Judith, we are permitted to go to bed early. I think I'm abount ready, too.

Carl,I lost my cousin, Patsy, a few years ago. Her husband lived alone for a few months, then he decided to sell his house and go into AL. He did pretty well for a while, then stopped eating. I think I remember him asking either me or someone at the facility how long a person would live without eating. One day I got a call that he had.not been eating and had gone into renal failure. He didn't live long. I know he stopped eating so he could join Patsy.

That sounds like the man you met might be doing the.same thing, Carl. I have always thought this-first there were two, then there was one and then finally half. Two single people, then marriage and then death of one of them.

    Read for sleep. Good night.

Here's something cheery. For those of you who will be watching the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day, get ready for a big treat! There will be a float comprised of three soaring eagles commemorating our nation's semiquincentennial anniversary. The photographic image looks amazing so I know it will be extra amazing to see the eagles on a float. The idea is to have something that all of us can feel good about. All of the floats are comprised of flowers, leaves, seeds and other plants materials. Here is an article about the eagle float.

Good morning, Mint. Do you have a lot of snow? Be careful when you're outside shoveling.

Iris, that float will be magnificent. It amazed me how they can build those and cover everything with flowers, needs and greenery. We always watch the parade and hope to see this float. Have you never been to the place where try build them?

Looks like it will be a cool, gray day here. Fed the cats and got the prednisone down Max and Lilly. Fed the birds -almost out of feed so guess I.better order more. And later.

    Good morning,

I thought this was going to be a good day! I’ve been sleeping 3 to 4 hours for several weeks and guess it caught up with me last night, 8 hours for a change.

Than I let the chickens out! One of the roosters came out with an attitude and started ruffling his feathers up at me, next thing I knew he lunges at me. I hit at him with my walking stick and lost my balance. Now he’s looking at me and thinking to himself, ok now your down at my level and your mine. He lunged at me again as I’m trying to get up and this time I hit him a good one and he decides to leave me along. Now I’m hurting more and praying I don’t have more damage to my neck.

Carl, have you mentioned grief sharing to the new man at SC. I know in Louisiana it was a grief sharing going on somewhere all the time. That might help him understand more about how to deal with his grief.

I’m going to go lay back down for awhile and see if this pain gets better.

Hope your pain is better soon, Ron. Try using a heating pad- that might help. Sorry but your rooster story was kind of funny. I can sort of relate. Charles and I had a hundred chickens for several months and we had a couple of roosters. One was a White Leghorn we called Hoppy. The name was because when we went into the chicken yard he would come toward us, hopping sideways. He would try to spur us and the spurs were so long they could go through our jeans. Our other rooster was nice -never tired to spur us. His feathers were so black they looked green and blue.

Are you all sending Christmas cards? I usually do but think I have waited too long. I sent a birthday card to Carol last Friday and she still hadn't received it on Monday - only 25 miles away.

Good morning. I got 7 1/2 hours last night, so I feel rested this morning. I hope I can get a lot of things done today.

Ron, I was going to say why don't you let the rooster charge at you, because they can't bite, but Lorita says they can try to spur you. That does sound dangerous. It doesn't sound as if chicken duty is safe for you. You cannot do anything risky! I hope your pain goes away very soon, Ron!
