The final blow to my Christmas spirit.....

My DH is in hospice care, and I know this will be his last Christmas. I have been trying to find some joy here and there, but on Wednesday my beloved 14-year-old kitty had to be put down. He had a mass in his abdomen and had stopped eating. His brother, my other kitty, died in September. I just feel like everything from my previous life is being taken away from me, and I am so angry. I had to move from the house I loved, my DH is dying, and now my pets are gone, too. I won't ask how to reclaim any Christmas spirit, but just needed to vent a little. This disease is so unfair and terrible!!!!!! Thanks for listening - and I know I am not the only one who is struggling this holiday season. Hugs to us all!

I have no words that would ease your pain and can only send big hugs to you. I’m so sorry for all you’re going through.

Peg, I'm so sorry that the hits have just kept on coming for you (and not in a good way). My darling Betty cat got DH and me through his Alzheimer's and his passing 2.5 years ago, and I know I'm going to be a basket case when she goes, so I hear you about your cats.

And for all of us struggling at this time of year, I recommend the song "Get Me Through December" (written by Natalie MacMaster, sung by Alison Krauss).

Oh goodness…I’m so sorry about your kitties. There’s just too much loss and our situation seems to amplify all our struggles so much more. Thinking of you and hoping you have a few moments of comfort💜 @A. Marie …thank you for the lovely song💕

I’m so sorry. I swear it just feels like every day is just an opening for some new blow to hit. I am counting the days until 2026. Although I’m not optimistic that it will be any better.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved companion. Is he the handsome orange boy in your avatar?

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. Seems so unfair to add the loss of your cats to the already sad situation with your DH. I hope you can find peace soon. In the meantime, hugs and good thoughts are being sent your way!

So sorry your husband is in hospice care. The loss of your pets would be difficult at any time, but must feel unbearable in your current situation. I send you hugs and prayers for peace.

Peg, I am so sorry to hear of so many hits having to be dealt with in such a short time. Our loving pets are fully-fledged family members and their loss is just devastating. The grief of all this is such a heavy burden to bear. My heart and good wishes go out to you. You have been such a strong supporter of your DH for so long, he would be very grateful and proud of you. I am glad to see your follow-up message about looking ahead to 2026- that is the fighting spirit that will help you persevere through the storm and find new joy.

Yes—“This disease is so unfair and terrible!!!!!!”

This will also be our last Christmas. DH is almost not able to swallow at all now. And I will have to sell our home when this is over. All of our future dreams of retirement together, our happy life, will die. All I have is our little rescue pup. If I had to lose her too, I don’t think I could survive this. I cannot imagine the pain you are feeling right now. My broken heart goes out to you. It’s all I have left to give.

How much hardship and sadness we all have to endure. It sounds so sad selling your home, no future dreams and the suffering of our dear ones. It’s so easy to loose heart and yet we mustn’t let this disease beat us too. We must all hang in there and give each other the strength we need.

    Dear @Palmetto Peg

The saying “when it rains, it pours” comes to mind. It seems that these awful things come in multiples! I am sending prayers and hugs that you weather whatever life throws at you. Hopefully some peace and calm is right around the corner. 💝
