Recent passing of my mother
My mother, diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2020, passed away on December 20th at 64 after a long battle. COVID worsened her condition in March 2020, leading to paranoia and violence. Due to state restrictions, we moved her to Florida to an assisted living home. Months later, she contracted COVID and lost her ability to walk while in the hospital. After six years in a nursing home, she was placed on hospice care on December 17th with pneumonia and a blocked lung. Despite a slow progression, she worsened on Saturday, developed difficulty swallowing, and passed away later that day. We visited her that morning, but were shocked when hospice called 30 minutes later to inform us of her passing. I do believe she waited for my family to leave before passing, and wished to see us one last time. Conversations about her have lessened in recent years given and I hope this group can offer tips on keeping her memory alive. She had a significant impact on everyone, and I want to honor her memory. Thanks for taking time to read this.

So sorry for the loss of your Mom. Many times our loved ones wait until we leave to pass. Maybe to spare us? My husband passed in August 2024. I made a list of ways to honor his memory and have been doing them since. He was a veteran so I had a wreath placed on his grave for the holidays. I donate to the Alzheimer’s Association, and to veterans organizations on his birthday. I call and check on one of his buddies who has cancer. I attended the reunion of his unit. The spouses attended and there were three of us there who have lost our spouses. We helped each other. Think about what was important to your Mom and make a list. Was she an animal lover? Did she have charities where you could volunteer? I continue to post on the online forum here to try to help others who have a loved one recently diagnosed and are just starting on this heartbreaking journey. My wise Mom told me one time if you lose someone you love don’t stop eating their favorite pie, eat a piece for them. Go to the places and do the things they loved. Do the things they loved to honor them. My thought and prayers are with you. Hugs. 💜
