Where do you go for socialization?

I am thinking it would be helpful for DH and me to do more than just the normal day-to-day. We could benefit from playing cards, or a Bible study, or ping-pong. Our church is full of people who are older than we are, and not really interested in socializing.

I do think we could find purpose in volunteering to help at the local soup kitchen or something, but I'd also love to play cards or get involved in something that will stretch our brains. I think it would help DH, and I would appreciate the interaction.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

I'd suggest you find another church, one with more activities and diverse ages. I am ill and my DM has Dementia. I keep busy with my church ministries, including helping out at the food pantry. I also find that my city puts out a monthly calendar of things to do. Tomorrow I hope to take my mom to see "One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest" at one of the city's rec halls.

Some towns have community centers. If your DH can still play cards it sounds like you have lots of options.

Noooo - you’re going to take your mom with dementia to see ‘one flew over the cuckoo’s nest’? Lol.

@persevere …2 or 3 years ago I thought the Girl From North Country sounded good since we both liked Bob Dylan. I had no idea that a lady (a main character) in the musical had dementia. DH didn’t get that part at all (thank God) but I was a bit uneasy until i realized he didn’t comprehend. 😳

Is there a local senior center where you live? Our local senior center is very active w meals, group exercise activities, and classes.
