I’ve heard of this program and wanted to check it out. I learned that it is only available to someone who has traditional Medicare. My DW and I are on a Medicare advantage plan and don’t qualify so I stopped researching it.

There was a discussion in the General Caregivers board in July 2025.

My husband is enrolled in the program. They will provide so many hours of respite and also support from a nurse if needed. The program in my area runs support groups but I have not been able to participate. I have utilized the nurse to discuss some concerns I had about certain behaviors and my husband's neurologist is no help. Yes they have to come into your home and do assessments but so far those assessments have been helpful not intrusive. I have found the program useful and the staff have been supportive and helpful.

@Belle60 - Did you need to change your husband's primary physician to participate in this program and use one provided by the program? Also, can you elaborate on how the respite is being provided? Is it on their schedule or yours and are they using an agency in your area to provide an aide, etc. Thank you.

I live in Texas and am in the Guide program. I receive the maximum amount of Respite care which is 80 hours annually.

@nanasharon - can you offer some details as to how the respite works and what other benefits are provided? How do you schedule the time - do you request so many hours per week, etc? Do they provide aids from local agencies?

They request that you schedule 4 hour blocks. I was given the info through Rippl Care. I live in the DFW area and I schedule through Amada. I help get my 92 yr old dad to his doctor appointments and so I usually schedule on those days. They only need a couple of weeks advance notice.
