My DH is declining. He was probably only awake 2-3 hours yesterday. Hospice has brought a hospital bed here because many days I can’t walk him to the bedroom. Yesterday it took me and the caregiver just to get him from the hospital bed to the chair. What can I expect from here? He still eats but not as much. For those of you who have been through this stage already, how long can I expect him to live? Thank you all. This is a sad, scary journey.

    Dear @KathyF1

I am so sad for you to be here. I am not there yet, but remember hospice when my Dad died at home many years ago. They were wonderful with my Mom then as I am sure they are good for you now. Be sure to ask these difficult questions of them too.

I found an ‘Actively Dying Assessment Tool’ on Tam Cummings’ website. This may give you some indication of where your DH is. And yes, this is a sad scary journey. I wish you strength and peace during this stage. Also sending prayers that God be with you, your DH and all your support

Every case can be so different. In our case my wife went through a period where she slept that much and then start sleeping less. More than normal but less than she did for a while then 2 years later lost her appetite and over 35% of her body weight in 10 months. she got down to 86 pounds and was put on hospice, then she started eating more and has gained a few pounds back. I don't think her experience is common, but anything can happen making it hard to prepare yourself for what's next.

so sorry you are at this point. I would ask hospice that question as they can better evaluate him. Sometimes they get better and then decline again so it’s difficult to know how long it will be. Depends on many factors. Praying for your strength in the coming days. 💜
