Looking for Girl Friday help in the Pittsburgh area
My father is caring for my mother who has dementia. She is recently in Memory Care and my father has to spend a lot of time with her in Memory Care b/c she doesn't like it.
Spending all this time with mother has left a lot of things undone. He is looking for someone who can run errands for him, light housework, maybe work on an excel spreadsheet, and other menial tasks.
How can I find a good Girl Friday? Where should I look?
Many thanks for your help 😊

yes, you will know . Log in from time to time to see the responses. I had to smile, I hadn’t seen “ Girl Friday” in a while. Since your dad does not need medical or home health , maybe he could look for a staffing agency for the help he needs. Personal assistants are popular and I think in demand.

You might want to look for at home care for seniors. I've been looking at agencies to find someone to help me care for my husband, but I see that some of these same agencies do provide light housekeeping, running errands, etc. Their services are worded as if they are allowing a senior to live independently in their home, but I would think they could provide a similar service for your dad.

this company mentions technology but for the patient but might be worth a call:

TBH, it sounds like you might be seeking two individuals— a cleaner/menial tasks and an admin for record keeping.
You might find a cleaner via word-of-mouth, a google search "house cleaners in [my town], Care.com or Craigslist. The errands could be farmed out to a service like Task Rabbit. or on Care.com
For the spreadsheet, you might need to go to Craigslist or even a local college jobs board.
Another option might be to hire someone to visit your mom in MC and take her to activities rather than have you dad there so often. This would have the benefit of getting mom engaged in her new community. Most PWD who require the level of care found in a MCF, are poorly oriented to time and unable to comprehend how much or how little a spouse visits. Mom and I used to each visit dad about 3 times/week. He'd say "she (mom) never comes to see me, but you're here all-the-damned time.

care.com and word of mouth to friends would be your best bets. Both have worked for me.

If there is an Oasis Senior Services in your area, reach out to them. They should be able to stear you in the right direction. Your local Council for the Aging might also help.
