    Good morning.

After my allergy testing the allergist said I was heavily allergic to cats. At the time I had five cats and some slept in my bed. I told him I wasn't getting rid of my cats. So he told me at least dont let them in the bedroom. So that is what I have done. It helped a bit. I also had immunotherapy (allergy shots) which helped a lot.

It's cold and windy today, but it cleared away the smog. We can see the snow-capped mountains again.

I'm off to play Bunco this afternoon.

Iris - that's great that you can see the mountains today. When I was a kid, I always enjoyed seeing the San Gabriel mountains from the backyard. I still have a warm spot in my heart for Mt. Baldy.

Hi, quiet day on our thread today. Sheena had a appointment so took Stormy, too .. Good thing because he was getting an ear infection. Got his allergy shot and front nails trimmed. He weighed102. Mike examined Sheena and her heart and temp wss.normal. She weighed 14 lbs. More than Last visit so is retaining fluid. She is now on Lasix. This should help with panting.

One of the guys came this morning and got all the girls up. Getting calves separated to wean. They brought two big trailers and got them a while ago so moms are upset. Won't be quite here for a few days.. I always felt sad when we sold calves. Before they left the pasture the moms were around the trailers and followed it as long as possible. They're bawling now. The are going to another pasture somewhere. We liked to wean them in a place where they could touch noses with their moms. Easier on everyone.

Huge wild fires in our Panhandle yesterday and today. I think it said there were nine. One burned over 145,,000 acres. Winds were 65-70 mph. We had very little wind today but low humidity and winds will be high tomorrow so elevated fire danger. I will be happy when things green up. I have lots of daffofils.blooming and green grass in the yard and east and South of the yard.

Girls are calling their babies and looking for them. Years ago we sold calves and Sue, one of our cows whose baby went, stood st the gate as the trailer left and screamed and screamed.. Can't tell me they don't have feelings. Sad but necessary because the moms need to get ready for new babies - doesn't make it easier though.

Lorita, when we wean the baby goats we put them in the small front pasture so they can “talk” to their Mamas. And the babies get lots of love and cookies from me too. I sit on my stool in the pasture so they climb all over me ❤️

I’m watching the news of the terrible fires in Oklahoma. It’s devastating.

Well the good news on my end of the porch is DH sold his 1963 Chevy SS II today!! The couple drove from Panama City to see the car in person after many back and forth phone conversations. DH is happy and so am I. They were really nice people who are buying the car for their Granddaughter who’s name is Nova. It was meant to be.

I know what you mean about the babies, JeriLynn, they have feelings and need comfort, too. Glad you got the car sold. Years ago we bought a 1949 Dodge Wayfarer. Charles' pride and joy. Hated to see it go. I think cars were built better back then- much heavier.

Well this was interesting-one of the trailers came.back and unloaded a.bunch of little babies some.about three months old. Moms gathered around, found their baby and took off. I saw one mom who found hers and immediately started bathing him. No wonder they were so upset. Then he loaded some cows and left

All is quiet now around the house because they aren't close and will stay away from trucks for a while. I think these guys, not American, are still learning about cattle. It's almost all I can do to keep from going out there to see what is going on.I still am attached to the girls.

Judith, I'm. beginning to see ants again

I hear one of the girls calling and.looking for her.baby. Makes me sad for her. She will call all.niht and tomorrow.

I watched Nature tonight entitlrd Parenthood. Very interesting how the parents care for their young. One male fish kept the babies inside his mouth for a month without eating, until they ate big enough to survive on their own.One kind of octopus takes care of her eggs, flushing them with water to keep them clean until they hatch, then she dies of starvation.

One very cute thing is during the opening of each Nature show- a mother monkey is sitting on a Branch with her baby. He starts to run away and she reaches out, without looking, and grabs his leg to keep him with her. I laugh every time I see it. Nature and animals are wonderful!

Watching curlIng so will say good night. If USA women beat Great Britain they are in semifinals.

Lorita - I saw the news about the fires in Oklahoma and was wondering how close they are to you. Hopefully not close!

Lorita and JeriLynn - I'm definitely not cut out for the farm life - selling calves, selling goats, and all of that would just make me incredibly sad. All the time.

It's been a quiet, yet busy day on my end of the porch. I'm getting roped into some privacy stuff, or I guess I should say, I'm allowing myself to get roped into it. I've been wondering how long it would take. 😄

Lorita, I had wanted to suggest that panting might be due to congestive heart failure but you had said it was due to pain. I hope the Ladix helps.

I have a class to attend tomorrow so I'm turning in now.

    Good night.

Good morning. Chilly and gray here with rain forecasted for tomorrow. Possibility of snow over the weekend.

    ___________________________________________________

Iris— 13/15 makes way more sense. DS and I are allergic to cats. DS's bigger trigger is grass— especially the ornamental ones favored by landscapers— which meant he saw a pediatric allergist who wanted me to get rid of the cat. I told him the cat was non-negotiable. Like I'm going to get rid of my autistic 7-year-old's only friend. Keeping him out of the bedroom and the occasional bath (for the cat) helped a lot.

Jerilynn— I can see where you'd be concerned about the little guy. He's got a lot of exposures with working parents, siblings in a different school and a daycare. I always wonder about the smaller in-home places and whether they're as draconian about things like sending sick kids home and handwashing.

Lady Z— We don't have a Walmart near me, but I do like being able to order from Target and having it brought out to my car. FWIW, mom shakes her head at this as she's always down to prowl the aisles at Target.

Lorita— I envy you the daffodils. I suspect mine are close to 2 months away but they're still under several inches of snow so I could be wrong. I hope the Lasix improves the panting for Sheena. Like Iris, my mind when to some CHF because of her age. Does Mike think she'll be up to the additional trips outside when the medication kicks in.

Eaglemom and Beth— It's funny how different the advice I am getting is. Both the PT and the surgery team caution against too much ice. He prefers a cold pack over ice but even that has limits. The surgeon set a 20-minute limit on any one area before moving it or taking it off. I have, on occasion, fallen asleep with it on. PT said ice is most effective for the first 10-15 days and that past that it can slow healing. He explained some physiological impacts of exercise that can be blunted by icing too soon after movement. That said, they're all fans of elevation. I have poor DH toting my ottoman and wedge all around the house for me.

I'm OK during the day with just Tylenol and Celebrex, but baby knee isn't sleeping through the night yet. The PA is great about trialing different option but, so far, oxycodone is the only thing that gets me through the night. I just want off it so I can drive and not feel sick to my stomach.

I had PT and a 2-week check-up yesterday. PT was great— they're increasing some of my reps and difficulty. I was chatting with an older-than-me lady who is a day behind me which was nice. Poor thing had the same-day "Heal @ Home" procedure only to have her DH rushed to the hospital early the next morning with kidney stones. She's fortunate to have 2 local daughters who are stepping up to keep them afloat.

I had my staples out yesterday. That was really unpleasant. 0 stars out of 10/do not recommend. The incision is healing nicely but maybe a little too well. Plus, I get the distinct impression that the person removing them was being trained as she had someone with her talking her through it. Not cool. DH said I looked white as a sheet when I came out.

Mom's birthday today. I am not up to a festive dinner, so she'll need to take a raincheck on that. But DH is going to drive me over with a gift and a birthday bundtlet for a short visit. Niece is taking her to the Barnes on Sunday for the last day of the Rousseau exhibit. She'll love that.

    Have a pleasant day.

    Good morning,

Granddaughter and I had dinner together yesterday and any day is a good day when it’s with a grandchild. After lunch we went to my storage bin where she could pick out what she wanted. I’m tired of paying almost $100 a month on storage when I get my cabin I’ll probably downsize anyway. The biggest item is a large bedroom suite which I’ll sell and the rest give away after myself and family take what they want.

Just call me knothead now! One of my pillow cases was out of wack and as I was trying to shake it back in place, I hit the front of my scalp on an overhead storage compartment. Have a small knot on the front of my head, but not much to a hard head like me.

Real windy today, I might take a nap and see if the wind will rock me to sleep in this camper.

    Good morning all.

Lorita I'm glad you went to to vet. With the Lasix that will mean lots of outside time! Hopefully that will help.

The wildfire's are awful. Watching them literally roll into your town…….heart stopping for sure. So much devastation. And then this morning I see a report of 18 wheelers full of round bales of hay headed where cattle have escaped from the fire to safety. That brought more than a few tears.

Ron do we need to wrap you in bubble wrap to protect you?

Time for our group, I'm leading this morning so I'd best be signed in on time! back later. Everyone be safe.

Morning west wind.here and already 71 with low humidity. Fire weather warning until 8 pm. GG, the awful fires are in the panhandle and Western Okla. l Iive in the East central part of our State.

Sheena laid too long last night in the same position and her legs aren't working too well this morning. Did get her outside and back inside after maybe half an hour. Dissolved her meds and got it down her. Mike thought about heart worms-never been tested for that. He said if it was she couldn't tolerate the treatment. Think he said the same for CHF.She has retained 14 lbs. Of fluid - weight is.not entirely from eating. Both of then are at the top range of their lifespan.

Two of the girls at the clinic took her out to the car on an elevated carrier on wheels.. People were asking me what was wrong with her. While we were waiting to be seen a man came in and told me he had a saddle in his car and could get another one-because they are so big. I will do all I can-just wish I wad.younger and stronger. One of the girls who wasn't very big picked.her up and carried her.

GG, Charles and.I pulled so many of the calves and got attached to all of them and I still am. Several years ago we thought we would sell six of the older ones. Had them trucked to the stoclyatd to sell. The closer it got to the sale of cows the worse we felt. I called the stockyard to tell them not to sell. Luckily a trucker had just brought in a load and he brought then home. When he opened the tailgate they.hit he ground running. The only time we did sell some cows was to a.neighnor. When we sold calves I always told them goodbye and cried as the truck went down the driveway. Girls are still bawling- for their babies-did all night.

The guys left all the corral gates and gate to NE pasture closed so opened them so they.coukd.go down to.graze. Judith I opened ten gates but left six.closed to the.back of the corral. I can think of three or four other places where corral gates would.be.helpful-.remember you once asked why we needed so many gates-there are never enough. Someday I'm going to.count tje.number of gates we have -I.know there are six yard gates to begin with.

Sorry this was so long.. Saw the last of a womens.curling match.. It went an extra end because of a USA and Swiss tie. USA won and will go to semi finals.

A trip to the Barnes. Oh, how I wish. I googled the Barnes site and Rousseau. Very inteesting.

Lorita…So the calves left and came back. Had the men taken them by mistake?

Ron…I agree. I am blessed to have two of my grandchildren close by. They just drop in!

Poor Sheena. Hopefully the diuretic willmake her feel better but getting her outside all the time will take some doing especially since she has difficulty with the steps. Do you have some long boards to make a ramp that is not steep?

GG. privacy stuff? Is this related to your blog?

Judith, I think they took all the calves, then had to bring back little ones. Mike said this was the first place they would start separating them so guess it wss a learning experience. He, or his.nephew, probably checked and had them return the babies. Really traumatized the moms. They grabbed their babies and took off.

Ron I will join your knot head club. The year after I lost Charles I was prone to hitting my head, even had a concussion that kept me down in bed for a while. I still do it someimes, even once with a feedbucket. We gotta be careful.

i'm worried that taking.Sheena to the.vet and laying on that metal table made her worse. Her legs seem weak and shaky and she can't get up by herself . Maybe this will wear off and.get better. She was on that table maybe half an hour. She walked into the clinic okay and.over to be weighed.

I think there may be a new baby tonight. One of the girls laid on the east side of the barn a long time so went out to check. She got up again and laid down on her side. When I got close she got up and started up toward the others. Probably beginning labor.

The wind has been terrible and.now it's turning colder.Several big grass fires up north today. I heard 300,000 acres have burned in Kansas. Just terrible .

Saw the US women's hockey team win gold this afternoon. Tonight the US women's curling team plays tonight, too Good night.

HB - I'm glad you're healing nicely and I'm glad you got your staples out even if it a "do not recommend".

I hope your mom had a nice birthday!

Ron - Ouch! I hope you don't have too big of a bump on your head.

Lorita - I'm glad the fires aren't anywhere near you. I'd admit to being fairly geographically-challenged. 🙂

I'm so sorry that Sheena isn't so many health issues. It's so hard when they get to be elderly like that.

Judith - the blog is only about Peggy, her dementia journey, and all of our ways to try to work around problems and make life better for her.

The "privacy stuff" is more about getting involved in the work I was doing before dementia caregiving forced me to step away. I used to do a lot of consumer privacy education and litigation. I'm not trying to be secretive, but most privacy issues have a political angle to them and so I'm trying to avoid talking about that. Although, I will say, that in my coalition work, privacy law is a weird beast - I've always worked with the left, the right, libertarians, and everyone else. The broader your coalition members, the more chances you have at success.

It was an icy cold day today, we even had some snow flurries. Thankfully none of it stuck. But man, it is cold outside.

Gym was good today - my trainer had extra time after my session was over and he invited me to stay and do more stick work, so I accepted, of course. That meant I was working out for about an hour and forty minutes. I'm pretty happy I have the stamina for it.

Even though I finished my continuing legal education courses, I still have to pay the annual fees. So I finally paid them today. Now I'm truly done until next year.

Blog-wise, I got another post up today. I'm really happy that we have a production schedule and that so far we've stuck to it.

    Good morning!

I believe I’ll try and bump my head again today!! I slept until 7 this morning and it’s usually between 3 and 4 when I’m up. Small bump and a little sore but that’s all, maybe this time toward back of scalp to even it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my brother that is buried in Sioux City lately and how sad it was that I missed his funeral. He passed away at a time Lou was being difficult and I had no one to help. I’m praying that my health holds up enough for me to visit his grave this spring/summer. Also, it would be nice to see my niece that I haven’t seen in over 30 years.

That will be a nice trip, Ron. I had to look up Sioux City, I thought it was in South Dakota. How did your family get to the Midwest when you remained in Louisiana?

Iris, my mother and sister was still in Louisiana, about a hour and one half from me until they passed. My oldest Brother moved to Plano Texas with his family shortly after I returned from Vietnam and my oldest son moved to Dallas for a career move. My other brother this was in Sioux City also left with his family shortly after I returned from Vietnam and lived in several States before moving to Iowa. He was very smart and one of the easiest people you would find to talk to. He had a interesting life and below is a partial clip of his obituary.

He taught music at various schools and in 1969 he volunteered to be the first white music teacher at Booker T. Washington High School in Caddo Parish when schools in the South were being integrated.

After his tenure as a music teacher, he became a self taught piano technician. He tuned pianos for Queen, Frank Sinatra, John Denver, Henry Mancini, Rudolf Firkusny, John-Bernard Pommier and was the tour piano technician for Misha Dichter four times. He taught piano technology at Western Iowa Tech Community College for fourteen years. He made another self taught career change to round out his working years, repairing string instruments at Rays Mid-Bell music until he retired.

    Good afternoon

Feeling a little off balance here. I'm from a tiny town in central KS. We had the largest graduating class at 112! Anyway, yesterday I heard of two of our classmates whom passed with various forms of ALZ and another from the class ahead of us. These are people I knew / know. That's three people in a short amount of time. Just now I heard from a friend whom we met at our first ALZ support group in the fall of 2012 - her DH passed last night. All of these people were either 68 or 69, young way too young. That's four in 24 hours. My head is spinning thinking of various conversations I've had with all of these people. Good ness.

The woman's hockey certainly was exciting to watch. I'm not sure what's on today / night. Whatever it is I'm sure DH will turn it on.

Madison is having her hair done today, ie - she's at the groomer. Time to pick her up. She'll come in, get a drink of water and pass out until dinner time!

    Let's everyone be safe.

Thank you, Mint Seeing a longtime friend get worse by the day is really hard. Getting harder to get her up but she still walks slowly and is wobbly. I don't see.how taking her to the vet made her worse but she walKed out to the car to go and walKed into the clinic.. Her back legs.just don't want to work or support her Could laying for half an hour on the table cause that? I'm just a mess right now.

One bright thing today is I got to feed Billy. Girls are.not bawling as much for their babies. Haven't seen the geese in two days -maybe on one of the other ponds

Sorry about your friends, Eagle. I have lost a Couple of my classmates but not to alz. We still have good memories, thank goodness.

Been cold, sunny and calm here today but still some wildfires. Daffodils are beautiful and maple trees have big.buds even some buds on elms.

    Good night
