The next stage
my DW rather suddenly has started dissociating and sundowning. She drinks a lot and isn’t open to stopping. This doesn’t help. I’m not sure how to handle it.

My dear husband used to dip. It got to the point he was chewing constantly. I finally just quit buying it. After a couple weeks he simply stopped asking.

As my DW worked through stage 5, she eventually lost complete interest in alcohol. Before that she was a moderate drinker. Mostly responsible, but not always. My experience with this disease is that whatever today's problems are, they do not last. They then get replaced by some new problems.

good point. Similar to what I’ve learned in various support groups.

I have been watering down my DW alcohol for nearly 2yrs without her ever noticing. We are now at the stage Timmyd mentioned and her interest in alcohol is definitely diminishing.

Use the glass she usually uses for alcohol and fill it with another beverage that is not alcohol. There are some that have the taste without the alcohol.

Unfortunately, she drinks beer out of the can so it's impossible to disguise. Thanks for the tips though, could come in handy at some point.

we had family visit who drink non-alcoholic beer. Recognizable brands. Looks real. I couldn’t taste the difference from with or without alcohol.

I would alternate between my wife's normal chardonnay and a NA white wine. She did not notice the difference and the wine seemed to calm her down a bit from sun downing episodes.

thanks. Sundowning has been an issue, too.

You could buy the zero alcohol beer in the can. I do this occasionally for my DH.

If she doesn’t like the non alcoholic beer, could you maybe try those nice frosted mugs you put in the freezer. Then water down the alcoholic beer with nonalcoholic beer. This will give her some “relaxation” and maybe help with the sundowning, without going overboard. Or even try the non-alcoholic in a mug. The frosted mugs make a beer very refreshing!

I like this idea - thanks1
