Mom only has Medicare A and B plan only (she has dementia)

Any recommendations on which Medicare additional insurance plan I should choose?

Getting ready for the future.

She's very healthy, active and not on meds.

Thanks for your input.

If you can afford it I would suggest Medigap Plan G. Plan G — Often the most popular in recent years. Covers everything except the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026). Includes Part B excess charges (important if doctors charge above Medicare-approved amounts). Comprehensive with relatively affordable premiums compared to fuller coverage options.

Medicare Advantage plans are private insurance companies, not Medicare. Approvals are often needed for procedures and can be denied. Plans are generally zipcode dependant. However, if your mom is healthy now, an Advantage plan might be an option. If that changes down the road you could see more out of pocket expenses. Once enrolled in an Advantage plan you cannot go back to a Medigap supplement plan without underwriting.

If your mom is within the six month window around her 65th birthday, choose whatever plan G is cheapest. They all cover exactly the same things. If she’s not in that guaranteed acceptance window, you will need to find out if a guaranteed acceptance plan is offered in your state. I say this because the other companies will underwrite her and the premium may be unacceptable is she is even approved.

We worked with a local insurance agent to quickly decide on a company.
