My DH just passed

My DH just passed this morning. Although I have been crying and miss him deeply, I knew it was coming and am so grateful that he doesn’t have to suffer any longer. The dementia had taken so much from him and he was just entering stage 7. Along with the dementia, he began to suffer many physical ailments with heart and kidney. He had two bad falls recently and had a broken arm and most recently a broken hip. He came through the hip surgery 2 weeks ago very well, but a few days ago he came down with an infection likely from the indwelling catheter he has had due to his kidney issues.

Sending condolences. So sorry for your loss. Even though we know it is coming, and we may have some degree of relief that their suffering is over, it is still a shock. I hope the love you shared gives you comfort and peace.

    My deepest condolences.

Though my DW didn't have quite as many falls, she had enough and was also just entering Stage 7 when she passed on Feb 2nd. I miss her like crazy, but like you, am incredibly relieved she isn't suffering anymore. I am also relieved I'm not suffering anymore. What a set of mixed feelings as this awful journey we had been on has ended.

Hang in there and big hug.

Deepest condolences for your loss. We know it is coming but the aftermath is soo hard. Come here often and let the group help you walk this next path. It may be long and hard, but support is just a click away with the wonderful people here. Cherish every memory from your life together and know that even as his brain slipped away, his heart was always there with his love for you.

So very true about the set of mixed feelings we all have to deal with from losing our beloved person in this way. I never know which feelings are going to greet me out of this mix - guilt, overwhelming sadness and grief, relief for him that he is no longer suffering - they are all swirling around in my head. Sometimes I even feel guilty for the grief since I know he is no longer suffering and I wouldn't really want to bring him back to that reality, but I still miss him. Such a confusing mess!

Sorry for my late reply…but my condolences on your loss. Stage 8 has such a mix of emotions. Once the shock wears off, focus on the feeling of relief that his suffering is over. We, of course, miss having them with us, but for me, I’d rather my DH is free of this awful disease than suffering beside me.
