Judith, I need to order bulbs this week. Have you? The daffodils ate.bloomed out but the narcissus are beautiful.

    Hope everyone is.feeling well today.

It's windy and warm here too, Lorita. Glad you're making progress toward eating solid food again.

The Tennessee River looks lovely in the sunlight. Thanks for sharing, JeriLynn.

    Good morning/afternoon.

    1000005077.jpg

Here is a row of beautiful amaryllis at a restaurant where we saw the whales.

It's good that you're progressing to brother, Lorita. It can be hard to stay hydrated when it's so hot.

JeriLynn, the river looks nice and cool.

Thanks, Carl and Iris. It takes 10-12 days to get back to normal food and feeling. Tomorrow I can have cream of wheat, instant potatoes and soft foods. One.bad thing is I received a dozen crumb cakes on Friday, cinnamon and.blueberry and I can't have one. Sent some to Darwin and Donna and last night he said they had already eaten four of the dozen. The are so good. Maybe by Easter I can have a bite or two.

Iris, those flowers are so pretty.

Iris - Not a family reunion, I just have a lot of family in the area. I don't always get to see them, so I was glad to be able to spend time with them.

I love your photo with the amaryllis.

Lorita - I hope your diverticulitis is getting better. It sounds like a hard thing to manage. I feel sorry for Stormy.

Carl - I'm glad you're on the mend. How are you today (I'm thinking about your DW's birthday).

Zetta - I don't remember the name of the resort in Jenner, but I kind of remember the location. It's a very pretty spot.

That produce checkpoint on highway 5 is just past the border between California and Oregon, on the California side. You and I go through the same one. 🙂

JeriLynn - the Tennessee River looks much larger than I expected.

Over on my end of the porch, we got home a few hours ago. The drive between CA and WA, while long, was very pretty. A lot of the trees are flowering - purples, pinks, white - gorgeous to look at. Traffic wasn't bad so we made good time.

I'm wrapping up my first batch of laundry and then am going to go to sleep.

I hope you all have a good night.

Amarillis takes me back. DW used to buy the bulbs and grow them indoors as Christmas flowers. Lovely flowers, especially in the darkest time of the year.

The visiting nurse is doing blood pressure checks this morning at the senior center. Then there's lunch and chair chi. I'll pick up DS at 4:00 to go to Griefshare. I'm eating breakfast and doing laundry right now. This is an old man's version of a busy day.

I am enjoying the prepared meals I am buying. I just reviewed next weeks' (March 30) order online but made no changes. I seem to be losing weight by eating these meals, without going hungry. They cost me $100/week, but they keep me out of restaurants and drive-thru windows, so it's no more than I was spending and quite a bit healthier.

Good morning. It's rainy down my end of the porch. Things should clear in an hour or two.

Lorita— I hope the dietary changes are helping you feel better. You might want to talk to your doctor about testing your Vitamin D levels. For many older people sun exposure doesn't cut it. The RDA increases at 70 and many people don't quite get enough.

Iris— I'm glad you're feeling better. The picture of the amaryllises is lovely. I wonder if they do anything special to time the blooms as we do here.

Carl— You do sound busy to my ear. I'm glad the meals are working for you. They're probably healthier as well than what you get at restaurants in terms of salt, fat and portion size.

Gothic G— It sounds as though you have a successful trip south. How often do you visit the area and friends there?

Jerilynn— The river shot is gorgeous.

Lady Z— Mom never liked making phone calls. I can recall her getting me to call doctors' offices and businesses from the time I was about 10 or 12.

I googled the resort. Wow— it looks lovely.

Ron— I hope there were no surprises at your appointments.

    ___________________________________________________________________________

Yesterday was something else. Mom called me around 8am complaining of chest pains and SOB. I instructed her to take an aspirin and unlock her door while I called emergency services. She would have preferred I pick her up, but I insisted and she caved.

I made it to the hospital before the ambulance and on the way, a police officer called me to let me know her EKG looked normal, that she was "adorable" (they all say that) and confirmed which hospital. In the hospital, the docs saw her promptly and also ruled out a heart attack. X-rays show increased fluid in her left lung. She's had some decreasing degree of fluid there since November and we've been monitoring with pulmo and imaging— we were supposed to see pulmo in 2 weeks. They plan to drain it later today and perhaps discharge her on Tuesday. She seems to be in good spirits. I'll need to swing by her house later to pick up something for her to wear home.

I have so much laundry to catch up on.

HB, for you, I know you and your mother's docs are looking into drug therapy for osteoporosis. Here's a video that may be helpful. Also, he has other videos that talk about "all" of the osteoporosis drugs: Fosamax, Reclast, Prolia, Evenity, Tymlos. One thing about Prolia - if ever a person needs to cease taking it, if the person does not follow up with Reclast, there is a high risk of vertebral fractures. I would never take Prolia.

    Thanks for that.

Her PCP's office called her this morning to discuss her DEXA scores. There was no statistically significant change in 3 years so he's comfortable monitoring for now.

Morning, HB my doctor did a Vit D test a couple of weeks ago. Guess it was ok because the didn't call me. When I get into town again I will get a copy of test results. My level had always been low even when I was outside a lot. He said his has been, too.

My LLQ ie hurting a little. I saw Billy and took feed to him so guess the lifting caused it. Thought I could eat cream Of wheat but read in another place that said, not yet! Guess it is yogurt, cottage cheese and instant potatoes, which I really like. Billy is limping on his left.back leg. I have some Aeromycin crumbles for a couple of times so will need to get more and more feed.

So, Ron, you are closer to Springfield than Branson? Hope.your appt. goes well. I love SW Missouri and NW Arkansas-those areas were our go-to places.

Carl, that sounds like my busy day, too. I need to get tax papers together today because my appt. Is next Monday. I know I have been saying that for a month.

    Back later.

    Good morning.

HB, I hope your mom improves greatly after her procedure and other treatments.

Judith, did you do your yard work? Be careful in the sun! I never heard of red beans and rice for laundry day, but it sounds good. I usually get a Jersey Mike's or other sandwich for marketing day, because I'm too tired to prepare a meal and clean up after.

I have started using laundry sheets to cut down on microplastics because I used to use laundry pods. I am satisfied, they clean well.

Beth, thanks for posting the video. I have osteopenia and I dont want it to progress!

Carl, do your meals come ready to eat? Do you get one every day or a week at a time? It sounds like a good service for people like us.

Ron, are Springfield and Branson close together? How did your appointment go?

Lorita, how are you feeling and eating this morning?

    Good afternoon.

HB your mom did as you instructed her - while you were totally down with your knee she had no health scares / issues. She waited until yesterday. I'm glad you called the ambulance, that's always best. I bet that call got you heart rate pumping.

Seems like Monday must e laundry day. I've got load two going. Does anyone else only do one load of washing, then drying before starting another load of washing? I have a good friend who does that. Personally I think its crazy, but she insists do one thing at a time - thus one load from washing to drying then another load.

Lorita our tax appointment is Sat. I'm ready, paperwork is ready and documents are in the folder in the safe, ready to go. I could drop them off and pick them up, but I like to be there incase he has any questions. Hopefully no big surprises this year.

Time for me to change the washer & dryer! Back later to check on everyone. Let's be safe everyone.

Iris, I get 8 meals every Monday, packaged in individual trays and packed in an insulated box to keep them cold in transit. They are ready to eat after 2-3 minutes in the microwave. Eight is the minimum order; I could have more if I wanted. I eat fruit, nuts and cereal for breakfast and eat several lunches per week at the senior center, so 8 is plenty. If I plan to be out of town I can just skip a week. They have vegetarian option and diet option, but I'm a larger than average man and would starve on those so I'm losing weight on the standard meals.

Ron lives north of Springfield and Branson is south of Springfield, so he drives right through the edge of Springfield to go to Branson. Changing his PCP to Springfield saves him about 100 miles round trip. Well worth a change, even if fuel isn't rationed yet.

HB, glad your adorable mother's scare worked out as well as it did. A woman collapsed at the senior center today and left in an ambulance. She appeared conscious but was on a gurney with oxygen cannula installed. Scary.

One of the women at the senior center told me I am a "very handsome man" today. Poor woman, she's on a walker and her vision is failing as well. Old age is not for sissies.

I'm off to run errands and Griefshare. TTYL

    Good afternoon Porch Friends.

Lorita. That was nice of you for taking the crumb cakes over to Darwin and Donna. They sound so good. What are they called and do you get them from Walmart? Im going to get me some, to go with my morning coffee. Has Billy, had problems with his back leg before?

Iris. Those amaryllis, are beautiful. Are you feeling better and getting rested up after your trip?

Carl. Those meals sound good, and you cant beat being healthy.

GG. It's good you have your family pretty close together, especially for holiday get togethers. When I was younger all my family was in Sacramento, we are now Sacramento, Washington, Idaho and Nevada. I wish we were closer, but everyone always seems to be busy. I don't think I would even recognize Jenner now. Im sure it has grown a lot. I know that Rivers End has gotten lot bigger. When my grandparents owned it, it was just a little Cafe and bar, with 4 small cabins to rent. It's been 50 years since I have been there.

HB. You did the right thing calling the ambulance, there are so many things that could have happened to her on the way to the hospital. This way she had paramedics with her.

Eagle. Funny i did not know there was different ways to do laudry. I do laundry twice a week, for my DD my SIL and myself, and everything else. I put the first load in then move it to the dryer then the second load in the washer then to the dryer. It's not too often i have more then one load. Is there a faster way I'm missing? 😂

Eagle, I hope to get my tax prep done tomorrow. Did some today and.it made me nervous so stopped. I had the bed.covered with.papets. The bed.because I'm still resting. Until Last Year I had dropped.off or mailed my tax.papers in but that CPA retired so going with Jackson Hewitt because she is close.

I have never had a designated laundry day. I just do a load when I have enough. Don't use detergent or dryer sheets. I have used laundry and dryer balls for years and they really work well and save money.

Iris, I'm feeling.better, thanks for asking. I've had white grape.juice, tea, hot and cold, pedialyte cottage cheese and instant potatoes (small amounts) and water so far. More cottage cheese and potatoes or maybe Greek yogurt for supper. Not as hungry today. Not as much pain today but do have that metallic taste from the Flagyl.

Zetta, I get the crumb cakes from QVC. Jimmy the Baker had them on from time to time. I have Darwin's and mine on auto ship so they come every three months. Always six cinnamon and another six of a different flavor. I had lemon custard last time and they were delicious. This time I got six.blueberry and may take them to Darwin. I can't eat anything with seeds and I already have some others frozen.

HB, I know that was scary for you and your mom. I hope she recovers soon. How is.your.baby knee.by now?

Gotta order those.bulbs soon. Normally I don't plant until May.but the weather is.hotter this year so it may be earlier.

Zetta, Billy had footrot a few months ago but got better. He hsd.never.been in a cattle.chute so Mike got him into a small space.but he was scared and whirled around and around so we had to use the crumbles mixed in sweet feed. He may have stepped in a hole and sprained it this time He only has vision in one eye so that is possible since. I saw him walking better two days ago.

    Enjoy the evening.

Carl, your meal strategy sounds great! How did you decide on that particular company?

    HB, how's your mom doing?

Eagle, did you ever find any umbrella cloth?

Judith, that red beans and rice recipe is so tasty!

I'm feeling better, no coughing or sore throat but I am so tired. I didn't fall asleep until after 2 am. I'll try an early night tonight.

Carl - I like your strategy with the prepared meals. Staying away from the fast food places is a big plus.

HB - Getting to California? I go maybe once every month and a half or so. It kind of depends on what's going on with everyone. My 94 year old aunt isn't doing very well so I may go down in April and May to see her.

Count me in the camp for calling ambulances. Your mom is so lucky to have you.

Lorita - Ugh, taxes. We're starting to prepare ours too. I just want it to be done.

Zetta - I probably wouldn't recognize Jenner either! It's probably been 15 years since I've been there. I love that area though.

Your family is spread out over some big states! I have one cousin in Utah, and one in San Francisco, a few in southern California, but the vast majority of them are all in one town.

Rain starts tomorrow - no more sunny 80 degree weather for me! 😄

It looks like all of us are doing laundry right now. I got mine finished last night before I went to sleep.

I've been uploading photos to the media library in wordpress (for my blog). I had about 40 new photos to add. Now comes the long task of coming up with captions for all of them.

Iris, we were discussing meal delivery plans here on the porch a few weeks ago and someone posted a link to an article rating nine of the major plans. Factor was at the top, so I gave them a try and like what I'm getting. Every Sunday, I get an email with a link to a proposed menu. I review it and make sure there isn't anything I don't want to eat, and the food comes on Monday, eight days later. They charge my credit card each week when they ship the order, and I can stop whenever I want. I supplement the meals with greens and fruits, but the basics of meat, potatoes, corn, beans, and rice with tasty spices are well worth what I pay.

There are some pasta dishes, and I'm not sure if gluten free can be ordered or not. I can eat almost anything so I didn't look into that. I had shrimp, andouille sausage, and potatoes in a red gravy the other night, with corn and red peppers as a side dish. I could cook something like that, but I wouldn't do it for just one person. It is really nice, especially when I don't feel well, to be able to easily get something other than canned soup. Sometimes I'm depressed and can't motivate myself to cook, too, but I will microwave a meal instead of driving to Popeye's.

    Good morning,

Mixed emotions on new DR visit, spent close to a hour discussing my medical history with most past history and very little present. I was put on three more prescription medication to help clear my lungs and get to breathing better. Even though I already told him my pulmonary DR was contacted about the pneumonia, he told me to contact my neurosurgeon because he might cancel my surgery unless the pulmonologist tells him I’m ok. That’s all I need is more waiting!

Tax, another problem for me, I had received any of my 1099 forms and I know all three of them have my current address. I’ve called and they are supposed to to be sending them.

Carl answered the question about my VA visits from either Branson or Springfield. 2 hour round trip for Branson and 1 hour for Springfield. I really liked my Branson DR, hopefully I’ve made the right move since I’m closer now and all of my speciality care DRs are Springfield.

LAUNDRY,,,I use everything from baking soda to Tide.

Dentist this morning. He is not within my 1 mile radius but the drive was beautiful…bright green spring leaves and banks of Redbuds.

Then to the Container Store…one the edge of my one mile…to pick up 15 sweater boxes. They were on sale for $5 each. I like to use one for storing a years records.

Perhaps that is enough for today…maybe a puzzle this afternoon.

Ron, sorry about the waiting. Charles always said the VA was like the Army - hurry up and wait! But I can't complain about the VA. They gave us a good living while we were working and in retirement. Also provided the best of care for him. Hopefully you won't have.to wait long. Good move to Springfield, I think. Is it an outpatient facility? Would.you go Fayetteville for your surgery?

I had.no idea I was so weak. Had my grocery delivery a little while ago and.by the time I got it inside I was exhausted. Still have.bird feed, suet and Rusty's peanuts on the porch. I'm ok now since I rested.

Carl, are your meals frozen when you get them? Sounds like they are heat and eat. Glad you are able to get them. When I cook I make enough for three or four meals and I freeze soup when I make it.

GG I guess we have to pay taxes until our demise just like the saying goes.

A couple more record.breaking days for heat. The record for March is seven set in 1907, the year daddy was born.

Gotta get to those taxes, maybe. Back later.

Lorita, the meals aren't frozen and they don't recommend that I freeze them. I put the trays of fresh food into the refrigerator and microwave them when I want them. They keep for 7 - 10 days in the refrigerator and have expiration dates. Meals like shrimp keep 7 days, chicken keeps 10 days, etc.

Today I had scrambled eggs, fruit, and biscuits and gravy with DS in a restaurant for breakfast and ate chicken/white bean chili with cornbread and salad with friends at the senior center at noon. Supper will be a boxed meal eaten alone, probably cilantro chicken with rice and beans. Not 5-star eating but better than I was doing on my own. Although, that cornbread was pretty good.

It's warming up here. We're expecting 65 degrees today and 90 degrees Thursday before the rain returns.

    Good afternoon.

I slept until 10 am, my body must still be tired. I did a bit of cleaning yesterday, perhaps that's why. But I'm not coughing.

Carl, I really do like your meal plan. Right now I do my own grocery shopping, but I will keep your strategy in mind.

Ron, you have a lot of coordinating to do, but at least they are all in one place now.

Lorita, do you find that we need extra rest after we exert ourselves?

Judith, I have taken to storing paper into paper bags because I have so much already in plastic bins snd cardboard boxes. I used to enjoy the memories ftom the past, but now, not so much. 90% of this stuff has to GO!
