Long article about how things can get "interesting" in probate court.

https://calmatters.org/investigation/2026/03/california-conservatorship-conflicts/

One thing that jumped out at me was that court transcripts stopped being ordered. I've had to obtain the court reporters transcripts from probate hearings and the quality was basically garbage. I guess not many were being ordered so the reporter did an inferior job, but better than nothing. If I need to go to a probate court in the future , will be sure to get a reporter assigned upfront. Otherwise you just get the ruling, if any ,and don't know who argued what.

That's why a good DPOA etc drawn up professionally to fit the person's wishes upfront is the best way to avoid probate court.

This makes me want to cry.

    Absolutely disgusting.

Good to know about the court transcripts. Too bad we couldn't even find a lawyer to take our case when we found out 'things'. one niece and that niece's daughter took what they could just weeks before MIL was officially diagnosed. We found out about it before more damage was done, but we are still reeling from the fallout a few years later. I tell ya, some people are just evil!!
